Looking for OB near Newton Highlands

I'm 7 weeks along and looking for an OB in the Newton Highlands area. I don't have a car, so someone very close or in the Newton/Needham/Wellesley would be best.

I'm hoping to find an OB who can deliver at Newton Wellesley hospital, and I'm also open to the idea of midwives. Anyone have any recommendations?

If you have anyone you recommend, what specifically do you like about them and what are some difficulties in dealing with them?

Re: Looking for OB near Newton Highlands

  • I am in the process of switching back to my old doctor, Dr. Elaine Metcalf, at Newton-Wellesley, from another doctor in Medford that I wasn't happy with.  She is part of a larger practice at Newton-Wellesley.  I had been a patient of hers until last year.

When we found out I was pregnant, I decided that I wanted a doctor closer to where I live, but I am NOT happy with the one I have been seeing.

My reasons for going back there are:
    - Great reputation as a hospital
    - Metcalf knows my history
    - Practice is right in the hospital, so if the Dr has to deliver, she isn't that far away from the office (and can get back to scheduled patients)
    - They do ultrasounds and bloodwork right in the office (the other doctor was sending me all over the place for labs - once you start needing these you'll realize how much of a pain it is)

So, I hope this helps!  Good luck, and feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

  • Love all the OBs at Wellesley Womens Care. They are in the medical building at Newton-Wellesley there and deliver at newton-Well. hospital.  All teh OBS there are good, my favorites are Dr. Simmons and Dr. Devries because they delivered my children.  The nurses are great about answering any question you have over the phone.  They never made me feel like I was calling with a silly question (in my first pg).

  • I go to Harvard Vanguard in Wellesley, right on route 9. My midwife was Mary Baker, and I loved her!! At this practice, you can see a doctor, midwife, or a combo of both while you're pregnant. They were so helpful in answering questions when I called, and Mary really made the effort to get to know me. I delivered at NWH- it was a really great experience. Congratulations on the little one on the way, so exciting!
  • Thanks for the great recommendations! I never thought about having to travel to different locations for labs and ultrasounds, what great advice!

I will check out all of these suggestions. I appreciate you all taking the time to answer!

  • If you end up with the practice right at NWH, here is my experience with them. I go to Concord OBGYN, but they send their patients to NWH for the NT scan. We saw who I can only assume was Julian Robinson, since their website lists him as being British and the guy we saw was. He had horrible bedside manner. I would try to see a different doctor there if you can.

I've seen Dr. Robinson 2x and had the opposite experience.  He was nothing but friendly and reassuring.

I go to NW OB and they're located in the hospital.  I see Dr. Konig and love her!

I saw Dr. Robinson at least three times and had a great experience with him. He's busy and therefore efficient with his time but he's thorough, answered all our questions, made sure we were satisfied and followed up even when all the tests came back okay.

I saw the doctors at NW OB. I loved that they had the scan and lab right in their office.

  • My OB/GYN is located at the Newton Wellesley Hospital. Her name is Dr. Marna Dolenger. She is wonderful.
