So my pedi recommended that I keep my LO upright 30 minutes after each feeding in order to reduce the amount of spit up and vomit and to help decrease the amount of acid. Doing this during her night feedings are KILLING me. I stay up to keep her upright in my lap. How do all of you do it? Do you put your LO in your lap like I do, or is a swing or car seat upright enough to do the job? TIA!
Re: Reflux Mommas - Gotta question for you!
I prop myself upright on with pillows on my bed and lay her on my chest for the 30 min. Sometimes I doze off into a light sleep, but I try to sit in the middle of the bed (push DH to the edge), I put pillows around me, and I set a timer on my phone.
In the past I have put her in the bouncy seat with the vibration on. She falls asleep in there and then I either put her in the crib or leave her in there for until next time to eat.I have noticed using a crib wedge really helps. It keeps her propped up when she sleeps and there is much less spit up.
I hold him upright in the glider and then we put him down in the crib (with a wedge). The wedge works initially but he does eventually roll down and ends up sideways. He usually wakes us up a couple hours later because he is kicking the side of his crib.
I agree with pp in changing him before feeding.
He's also very congested from the reflux so I'm going to ask the dr if we can put him in his swing at night. He currently naps in his swing during the day.
I sit up in bed and put a pillow under each of my arms and lay with her on my chest. ?Sometimes I put her back down and sometimes I end up sleeping until it is time for the next feeding. ?
We also use a wedge/positioner but I don't think it is elevated enough to make a major difference for her. ?
She sleeps in the arms reach co-sleeper so it is easy to pick her up and pat her back when she does get up to spit up. ?She always spits up a few times, up to 2 hours after each feeding. ??
I enjoy the one on one time with her for the most part, but she hasn't been sleeping well lately. So I'm only getting 2 or 3 hours a sleep at night. So every once in a while, I would like to have an alternative to holding her so I can catch a little more sleep.
I purchased the rock and play sleeper which has helped her reflux immensely. I let her sleep in it during the day and night. I might want to ask the pedi if that's okay. I never thought about it. But it is designed to let babies that need to be upright sleep. Just thought I'd let ya'll know!
For night feedings I prop him up in my lap (like he's sitting) and we rock for the 30 minutes.
During the day I've used his swing, car seat, bouncy chair and boppy.
