so phenergan seems to kick the nausea

but (and this is a big but), it makes me 100% useless.  Like, I couldn't keep my eyes open, felt like I was high or something and fell asleep on the couch at 6 last night, and barely woke up to rock ds to sleep (fell asleep rocking him), and then went to bed and didn't wake up until this morning.

So this morning I only took 1/4 of the pill and I am still getting nausea with that, and it's still making me too tired (fell asleep on the couch)

It's a good thing I didn't try this when dh was at work.  Luckily he is off until tomorrow (he only has school tomorrow so he will be home early).

dh said maybe the phenergan works by making me sleep through he nausea/vomiting.  lol.

so now, I'm waiting for my m/w to call back and see what we can do.

plus side is I've had no vomiting, just useless and nauseated.  ::sigh::

Re: so phenergan seems to kick the nausea

  • I was on phenergan with #1 and it does make you useless.  I looked into other options and found that zofran works just as well for the nausea but it doesn't knock you out.  It costs more and not all insurances cover it but there is a generic available.

    I actually just got the phenergan because zofran wasn't working for me.  I have severe hyperemesis and tried the zofran for a couple weeks.

  • is phenergan = reglan?  or is it different?  they gave me reglan which i only took like twice but it knocked me on my bum too.  they said that most of those things do and honestly i wouldn't be surprised if that's how they stop the nausea!!  i mean before the rx they told me to try b6 with half a unisom during the day.  do you know what happens when you take sleep aides during the day?  i'm sure you do because it's OBVIOUS what would happen - and b6 does NOT cancel the sleep effect either.

    i hope you find some happy medium or something.  maybe your body needs to get used to the rx and then you'll be able to function again.  in the meantime i'll keep my fingers crossed that your ticker magically moves forward and you get passed this part..  :-(

    Different.

     Phenergan=promethazine (used as an antihistamine, for nausea and as a sleep aid!)

    Reglan=metoclopramide (usually used for reflux)

  • glad it helped, but sorry for the side effects. I took it once for a stomach infection years ago, and it totally knocked me out, but in a loopy way. The guy i was dating at the time said he had entire conversations with me that i had no recollection of.
