Are there 'public' Catholic schools where you live?

Just curious. We have them everywhere in Canada.They are a seperate school board, and you (usually) have to be catholic to attend.

ETA: you declare on your property taxes which school board you support, public or Catholic. You don't have a choice- if you are Catholic, you're obligated to direct your tax dollars to that board, and if you are not, you're obligated to dirct your tax dollars to the public system.

    i wish!

    Catholic school here is so expensive, we had to move him to a public school because we couldnt afford it. Now he just goes to a seperate CCD class once a week

    PMQ I live in Alberta. One parent needs to be baptised for a kid to attend the schools in my area, but they are at capacity so I think that's why. If there's lots of room I don't think they really care. There were lots of non-catholics in my school growing up.

    ETA: have you looked at your property tax election? Our specifically says we are obligated to direct our tax dollars based on whether we are Catholic or not. You can't direct your tax dollars to a public school if you're catholic. DH isn't sure if he's catholic so he directed his to the public but is changing his declaration to state that he's catholic since dd is registered in a catholic school next year.

    I'm pretty sure you live fairly close to me so of course my answer is yes. Although you don't have to be Catholic at all, you just have to direct your taxes to the seperate school board. I think you *used* to have to be Catholic, but not anymore. Not in our board anyway.

    Oh, and my sister (who is 40) went to the only catholic high school in our city and there was tuition back in her day! I went to the same school 8 years later and there was no tuition and no uniforms, and lots of non-Catholics.

    ditto this, but I am in Canada, too.  I am pretty sure you don't have to be of the Catholic faith to attend.
