How much does your 7-8 month old eat?

We started Charlotte on solids at 6 months and we've been taking it pretty slowly since she had a reaction to a couple of things, so we are still mainly on purees.  She seems like such a little piggy to me.  She'll eat about 3-4 oz. of fruit mixed in with a tbsp. of oatmeal and then when she's finished I'll give her some Puffs or a Mum Mum.  I don't really give her anything for lunch yet (will probably add this next week), but I'll give her some Puffs or a Mum Mum while Ava & I are eating lunch and I do the same thing while we're eating dinner, then after we're finished I give her her dinner which is 3-4 oz. veggies and a smaller serving of fruit/oatmeal.  Ava wasn't eating nearly this much at this age, but she has always been a light eater.  I'm just wondering if what Charlotte is eating is about the norm.  She is nursing slightly less during the day (still going strong at night), which I knew would happen once she starting eating more solids, but I don't want her filling up on solids vs. BM too much.

  • We are a week behind you in age so right now we are doing 4 oz of fruits with 2 tbsp of cereal mixed in for breakfast (which ends up being around 10-11am since she is a late sleeper) and then 4 oz of veggies with cereal (if it doesnt have whole grains in the mix) plus 2 oz of yogurt at dinner (around 7pm) She gobbles it up too. We are going to start adding in an afternoon meal/snack (prob puffs or yogurt) soon. She is drinking on average 24 oz of formula per day too.

  • Oliver eats a ton! I don't know oz off the top of my head but he eats 3 jars of food a day plus about 20oz of formula a day!  At 7 months he weighs 22lbs but he's also 29inches long so he is very tall & not really fat.  He typically eats a jar of breakfast foods in the morning, fruit or veggie for lunch & then a "dinner" for dinner, mostly a meat or pasta with veggies.  We just went to the pedi and she said he was not eating too much & that everything looked good!

  • Henry is about 2 weeks younger than Charlotte... he's eating 2 oz of fruit or veg mixed with a little oatmeal for breakfast and the same for dinner.  No lunch yet.  Haven't done puffs of mum mums or anything yet either.  Will be introducing plain whole milk yogurt in the near future... probably at 8 months, will offer it with some fruit or veg as "lunch".

    He also still nurses every 3 hours through the day (I think he gets about 4 oz. each time he nurses, based on what I pump at night 3 hours after he goes to bed).  So, that's about 20 ounces of breast milk through the day.  Plus another 8 ounces or so through the night.

    So.... 4 oz. of solids and 28 ounces of milk per 24 hours.

  • Hmmm...between 7-8 months, I'm pretty sure that a typical day of eating looked like this for DS:

    **4, 6 oz bottles**

    Breakfast = 4 oz of cereal, mixed with formula (sometimes a little bit of fruit)

    Lunch = a piece of cheese & a 1/2 (4 oz) jar of veggies

    Dinner = cracker or puffs, 1/2 (4 oz) jar of veggies, 4 oz jar of fruit

    I must have a little oinker!  Smile

  • Sadie eats about 3-4 oz of fruit at around 8:30, then 3-4 oz veggies at lunch and I have been doing oatmeal or cereal for dinner at night. She bf's about every 4 hours now. She is still getting up 1-2x a night to eat too. I thought with her eating more solids, she would sleep though the night but not yet. Sometimes she does but lately she is going back to getting up every 4 hours. I think I might change it up to mixing some cereal/oatmeal with her fruit and veggies, it seems like some of you are doing that.
  • G is 8 months, and hit or miss. Sometimes he will eat a whole jar of food, other times, 5 bites. He does not undestand the concept of puffs and has yet to put one in his mouth. :) My kid is not advanced.Stick out tongue
