1st timers NOT doing labor classes...

I guess I want to be reassured that I'm not the only one  not doing them. I simply waited too late to sign up!!!

Re: 1st timers NOT doing labor classes...

  • We are watching the Laugh & Learn about Chilbirth DVD's instead. I would highy recommend!
  • Loading the player...
  • We're not. It was just too big of a pain with our work schedules. I figure the baby is going to come out either way...

  • We arent doing them. We took a BF class but other than that have no plans of childbirth class. We also watched a dvd, i cant remember which one but worked out much better for us.
  • We aren't doing them. but we have been reading.

I read a LOT and DH and I are reading Natural Childbirth the Bradley way together.

  • We're not.  We plan on getting some sort of video/DVD
  • Your totally not alone. Wink
  • I'm not doing it. Not because I was too late or anything, I just really didn't want to! My mom gave birth to my brother in another country without an epidural and she gave birth to me with out classes either. She said, your body will tell you what you need to know and when you need to do certain things. I have been approaching my pregnancy the way my mom did, letting nature take it's course. I'm not doing a natural birth at all because that sounds crazy to me. But women have been giving birth for a very long time, way before classes were offered. I truly believe that everything will be fine. Flame away if you want, this is just my personal opinion.

This. I have been doing alot of research online. I figure I will forget everything anyway with all of the craziness around me.

  • We didn't take classes either.
  • I'm not. We couldn't fit them into our schedule (not to mention the price) and the only one I'd want to take (a comfort measures class) falls on the day of my shower. I'm using a doula so I am hoping between that and maybe reading/watching some videos, I'll be fine.
  • I'm taking a weekend class this Friday and Saturday... but I don't really want to anymore. I read the outline of what will be covered and I'm not 100% sure it's going to be extremely useful to me. I may be wrong... but I'm just not that into them.
  • FWIW, I took allll the classes.  (Nothing as specialized as Bradley or Lamaze, just basic.)  I'll tell you that there's really nothing I learned new at the childbirth class, but the L&D tour (part of the class) at our hospital was great to have.  I think DH learned the most at the breastfeeding class, and I feel better having taken the Infant CPR class.

All in all though, nothing earth-shaking.  You could miss if you and DH read up.  DH just isn't a reader - at all - so I wanted him to be somewhat prepared.

No flames here!! I feel like this too, but then I'm an over-preparer by nature and felt like maybe I should take them because they're there!!!

  • You're not the only one. We're not going to be doing classes either.

  • We're not going to.  All my friends who have had babies say that once you start going into labor you really kind of blank out on the info you learned.  If anything we'll watch a dvd at home because DH is paranoid about me being around too many people who could be sick.  Unless he can wrap me up in a bubble I think he'd be happier just watching a dvd.  Ha.

  • No classes here!

I was thinking of watching the Childbirth DVD while in labor :) maybe it will be distracting enough....

I keep thinking ignorance is bliss in this situation. I am usually the overprepared, list making person. But in this case I think the less you know the more. I'll find out if I'm wrong when the baby comes! Plus I learned a ton on The Bump.

  • We are not taking classes.  We are going on the hospital tour, only b/c it is offered on Monday and we are both off.

  • We are not doing them either.  We took a multiple blessing class, but that had nothing to do w/ L&D classes.  Some people told me you can even rent a video or read books and it's just as good.

  • We did not.  It did not work with our schedules and it was expensive.  We just went on a tour of the hospital, which was free.  I have been told by countless people that they really are not informative and your nurses will help you with everything anyways.  I just read as much as I can, I don't think I'll ever feel fully prepared though.
