3rd b-day planning! Ideas for an activity at a restaurant?

TIA for any ideas. We're having DD's 3rd b-day party in mid Feb and decided to use a local pizza place. Kid friendly food, minimal planning on our part since we'll have a one month old-ish at that point, and a good time for our friends to just get to hang out.

So, we don't have a private room but it's a section of the restaurant so we should have a little space to ourselves. I was thinking it would be fun to have a mini craft at the table to keep the kiddos occupied. The party's just from 4-6 p.m. so it's not like we need a whole lot going on. I also thought about seeing if we can bring along someone who does balloon animals or something- nothing over the top, but festive.

That plus a fun birthday cake, and of course I'll bring a fun tablecloth, etc. Thoughts? Anyone who's had a restaurant party for around 20 kids plus parents? BTW, the kids will mostly be around DD's age so not a huge range.

  • Oriental Trading has real cute crafts that come in kits already so less work for you....usually they come in sets of 12.  THey are VERY reasonably priced also.  Since its mid-Feb they have SUPER cute V-Day ones also if you want to go that route.

  • Oh my gosh- DUH! I can't believe I didn't think about them- I only got like a zillion and one of their catalogues when I was teaching! I knew you'd have some cute ideas, Dani! Thanks :)

  • Ditto Oriental Trading for easy crafts for kids.

I went to a 4 y/o birthday party at Chick-fil-A once and they had a balloon clown at the party.  It worked well!

I think that sometimes the "old standby" party games get overlooked too easily these days.  Maybe kids can play "hot potato" around the table(s)?  That's a game that 3 y/os can do.

  • Yea!  Old Skool games are always fun too, even like BINGO! You can buy one or make your own Bingo card real cute.  To make easier for toddler you can just do like 6 squares with shapes or toddler recognizable pics.
  • Ditto OTC.  Also think about a decorate your own cookie kind of thing and they can take the cookie home as a favor.

  • Cute ideas, ladies! Thanks so much. Yup, I'm definitely into the old school ideas- they never really get old!
