3rd Trimester

Being warmer? 2nd+ time moms

Hi ladies!  I know not everyone has this symptom, but I ROAST at night.  I wake up sweating and uncomfortable.  After delivery, does this go away immediately or will I still be roasting for some time after LO has arrived?  I want to keep the house warmer after baby is here, but I also don't want to suffocate myself at night!

  • After I delivered, I had hot flashes, which I think is relatively common due to your fluctuating hormones.  But maybe not?

  • It'll take a few weeks most likely for your body to return to normal.  I actually got even hotter after DS for a while and would sweat really easily.  But part of the reason for that is to also help regulate your babies body temp when they're newborn as well. So, if you notice that you get hotter holding the baby it's completely normal and is your body doing it's job of protecting a new body that still can't quite regulate itself.

Good to know.  I can put up with it for that!

Just another one of those things they don't tell you until you ask why you're still roasting.  Wink  But definitely worth it to help keep LO at the correct temperature for them.

  • I had night sweats for a short period postpartum -- would wake up just drenched, which had never happened to me before. It didn't last long, maybe happened a few times in the first two weeks or so?

I was like an oven when pregnant with DD#1 -- always warm, all the time. Usually I'm easily chilled and my hands and feet are always icy, so it was a nice change and I was actually looking forward to that part of pregnancy.

But this time I'm freaking freezing all the time. DH is complaining about how hot it is in the house and I'm in layers. :P

  • It took a few weeks to go back to normal. I had to start with DH's deodorant and then went to a heavy duty womans one.  It was horrible.
