False Labor and Pre - E :( VENT

So at my 38 week appt yesterday my doc told me I had pre-eclampsia.  All the bloodwork came back fine but she said she wouldn't be letting me go past 39 1/2 weeks.  I'm on light bed rest.

I was only dilated 1 cm but after a "rigorous" internal I was cramping all evening.  At 10 I finally started getting timeable contrax.  I was kinda excited at the thought of going into labor on my own when we had just talked about inducing.  They were painful enough to keep me up ALL freakin night long.  At 5a they started coming every 5 min.  3 hours later, I did what I had been told and called the doc's office.  Went in and the darn things STOPPED.  And still only 1 cm!!  So she sent me home and told me to get some sleep because I may have a repeat of last night, tonight.

The thing is I have been very relaxed about when DD will get here.  I accepted long ago that I would probably go late, being a first time mom, and have to be induced.  I was cool with whatever happened.  Well now, after actually waking DH up to tell him "It's time" and throwing our bags in the car, I am about to go through the roof with anxiety!!  And I'm still having contractions!

Uuuggghhh...:::buries head in pillow and screams:::

  • I'm so sorry. I had the repeated contractions that started and stopped like that, and it drove me crazy. Sad I hope your little one comes soon, and on her own!

The upside for me: after weeks of contractions and started and stopped, my body was really warmed up for labor. I woke up in labor minutes before my water broke, and DS was born just under 3 hours later!

  • Oh no!  That stinks, A!  I'm sorry 'bout the pre-e.  But Taytee is right, Ella will be here soon!!!  You could definitely still go into labor on your own!
  • Aww, I'm so sorry.  It sucks.  I woke up on the Sunday before my induction with contractions 6 min apart, I got in the bath tub and when I got out a few hours after they started they stopped.  It suuuucks, but it happens to the best of us!

This was my experience too. I had two weeks of early labor contractions with both pregnancies. With my first, I had Rhett less than 12 hours after waking up at home and telling DH that my contractions might be a little worse so we should probably head in just in case, and after only about 40 minutes of off and on pushing. With the twins I was at 6 cm when we got  to the hospital three hours after waking up at home with what I thought might be slightly stronger contractions. Not necessarily a good thing since they weren't in position at all! The idea is that all those contractions are getting your body ready so labor will hopefully be easier. Worked for me!

  • Sorry you going through that!  not to scare you, but I had those contractions for about three weeks.  The doc told me I would probably go early since I was already 2 cm dilated, but he held on and ended up being one day late.  I had two fake-out trips to the hospital - so I know how frustrated you must be!  All I can say is, listen to your body and don't feel bad about going back if you think you are in labor.  I went in on the Friday before my Sunday due date because I was SURE that I was leaking fluid.  The nurse told me I was just peeing on myself and the doctor on call only stopped by to say "go home."  I continued "peeing on myself" all weekend and when I went in for my 40 week app. on Monday, Dr. Seeker's nurse saw the wet spot on the exam table and guessed instantly that I was leaking fluid.  I was sent to the hospital for an induction, and as soon as I got into my hospital gown, my water broke all the way.

I know this is way more info than you asked for, I just mean to reassure you that you did the right thing by going in when you thought it was the real thing.  If they had taken me more seriously when I went in, they would have figured out that I had a little leak and that really was amniotic fluid.  Hang in there and good luck!!
