Pregnant after a Loss

Selfish Registry/Shower Vent...

so I checked out my registry, I know, slap my hand....

and the problem is that all my big stuff is gone.. purchased by people I adore... like maybe a dozen items... and NONE of the little ones.  My shower is Saturday and my sister has SEVENTY FIVE rsvp's.

Yes, folks.... one GIANT shower... where it appears everyone is going maverick and buying what they want.

This means ooooodles of little clothes.... when she needs more outfits like a hole in her head.  Why can't people look at my registry?  I need nipples, and ointments, and thermometers... my kid has a walk-in closet full of clothes be they ever so sweet.... sigh.

  • This is what I fear as well. I want people to buy off my registry...that is why I made it :)

  • Buying for babies is too much fun to go with nipples or ointments!  Keep the tags on the outfits and return or regift the ones you don't want.  At least they are buying you the big things!  And holy cow 75 ppl!

  • I always always buy gifts last minute. It's only Tuesday.  Try not to sweat it too much for now.
  • I find that two things tend to happen with showers of any sort:

    1. People forget to take things off the registry, and just buy whatever they think is cute/fun/useful.

    2. People tend to shop the morning of the shower. I am guilty of this, even tho I find it annoying when I am the person being showered. Embarrassed

No worries, it'll start to dwindle down Friday and Saturday. And if not, *hopefully* you'll get gift reciepts and you can exchange stuff, or maybe you'll love it all! Who knows!

  • Wow, 75 people!!

I agree with the PP, if you get a bunch of clothes, return them and get the stuff you need.

  • DH's family lives no less than three states away.  My friends and family are EVERYWHERE so we decided it was easier to just go with one big shower.

My sister is hosting... her shower rock (my wedding shower was an Alice in "Wedding"land tea party complete with a teapot cake.

we are doing a soup, salad and tiny sandwich buffet for lunch... 7 different kinds of soup.. my little brother is even making chili... everyone local is pitching in and we rented a hall... I"m totally psyched to see everyone in one place... and glad to only have to dress up onceStick out tongue

  • I've never understood why people don't buy off the registry, I mean COME ON! sometimes I've bought registry things at different stores (due to budget constraints) but at least I bought what was asked for!

ETA: I do realize that gifts are just that, gifts, but still. Registries are there for a reason. I hope some people are just late shoppers.I do recall shopping the day before an event b/c I am lazy. Yes

  • I have the opposite vent. I am having a very small shower 20 people max. My family is very spread out so aunts won't be traveling in for the event.

We need so much of the big stuff and I am fearful that we won't get anything near what we need. I recently added a few items like sleep sacks to round out the registry and of course those were the first things purchased.

My shower is next weekend and there are only 7 items purchased.

I agree with pp that people will wait till the last minute to buy gifts. They may be organizing to buy something larger as a collective.

I totally agree with this. I spent 5 freaking hours of my day on my feet as a 20+ week pregnant woman planning and picking out items for this child, the least you could do is consider it when buying a gift! Gah! LOL but you're right, in the end gifts are gifts and there's not much you can do about what you get!

  • I agree with you!!! Ive already put a lot of time into my registry - reading baby bargains, looking at reviews and compairing prices! The things I put on there are the things I really want and need!!! I am not putting any clothes on there so I hope they get the picture LOL

I usually shop for showers a day or two before (i dont like presents just sitting around my house lol) so just make sure you check your registry the morning of LOL - If you dont get everything you want dont they give you some sort of discount for everything thats left?

  • I agree with you!  Why can't people stick to the registry/  I'll never understand that.  I know this is going to sound bad....but this is one of the many reasons I choose to be on Team Green.  I just hope I don't get overloaded with blankets lol.

  • I am in the same boat with you.  The shower is this Saturday with about 35 guests and only a handful of items were bought from our registry so far.  I try not to look, but I am so worried that we won't get the basics that we so desperately need.  I sure hope that there are gift receipts...
