So, I decided to let her know progress from my appointment today: basically none...I've been 1cm for the last week and baby's head is very low. So, she tells me I should have sex tonight because it will ripen the cervix. 1st off, I am not dumb, I am aware of this, 2nd, totally inappropriate!

Yeah, I wouldn't be cool with my MIL telling me to have sex. But, I think you took down that boundary yourself when you started talking to her about your cervix.

Yea, my mom wouldn't talk to me about my sex life in a million years and for that I am thankful. MIL is an IVF nurse and because we went through IF treatments she feels it is OK to impart her wisdom on me/us. It's actually more annoying that she is dumb enough to think sex is going to make me magically go into labor...I have been having sex every night for the past week at DH's recommendation to bring on labor and still no progress.

That doesn't come close to beating my MIL who took me lingerie shopping. DH and I were getting ready for a special trip to Bora Bora and she was like "I want to take you shopping and buy you something for the trip". I am thinking "great...a cute sundress or something". We end up in the linergie department of Nieman Marcus with her telling the sales lady about DH and I's upcoming "romanitc getaway" and how she wants to buy me linergie for it. Thank god I am an odd size that has to be special ordered and got out of having to buy linergie with my MIL.

BTW, this was the same shopping trip where she told me she got full bikini waxes and her and FIL were having the best sex of their lives. I almost puked. Really, I did.

And also, good for you two! The only people I know who were virgins when they were married are my Grandparents, and I'm not so sure about Grandpa.

How is her telling you to have sex any more inappropriate than you telling her how wide a part of your vagina is opened?

If you don't want comments about your personal hoo-ha business, then keep it to yourself. But don't act surprised that someone would say something like that when you opened the door.

I guess I don't think of my progress as being anywhere like having sex. She was a L and D nurse for years so it should just be business to her.

My MIL has no boundaries but it doesn't matter to me... It's appart DH and I have sex so why would her recommending sex be weird?? But then again I dint have issues talking about sex with mom or MIL
