Pregnant after a Loss

Please excuse my idiot newbie question

I have my first appointment with the OB today. Are there any questions you'd recommend I ask or information I should come prepared with considering my history of early losses? I used to go the RE with a sheet full of questions, but I never made it to the first appt. with my other two pregnancies so I feel kinda unprepared staring at my blank notepad. :)

Re: Please excuse my idiot newbie question

  • If this is your first time in with an OB for a pg you will probably have a longer appointment and they will give you a timeline of your appointments, what tests to expect and when and the do's and don't of pg.

    Are you getting an u/s?

I don't think so. I had one at 6 and 7 weeeks with my RE. When I scheduled this appt. they also had me schedule an u/s for next week. I'll be 9 weeks then. Seems like they could have done it in one shot this week, but I guess that's how that office does it? I don't know. I was thinking about asking if they'd do it today once I'm there.

  • I can't think of any good questions to ask. Sorry. I just wanted to say again how great it is to have you over here. Congrats again. Let us know how your appt goes.

  • Your first month of pg sounds a lot like mine was! I was getting an u/s jsut about everyweek because I was going between two drs (but a Peri and OB instead of RE and OB).

  • If you are the type of person who might want non-standard care, now is the best time to ask, or you may find yourself looking for another OB later on.

~If I have a question, who do I call?  When should I expect a call back?

    ~Can I email questions?

~How are you with natural childbirth stuff (if you care)?

~Can I see a midwife? (if you don't like the answers to the top 3 questions, ask this one, lol!)

~Will I always see the same doctor, or will I see several?  What if I have a preference?

~Who will be there when I deliver my baby?  Do I just get whoever's on call?

    ~Can I get a same-day appointment if needed?

~What is your c-section rate (my first OB's office has a -get this- 60% c-section rate.  I switched!)?

~What hospitals do you deliver at?  What if I don't like that hospital?

~What prenatal tests do you suggest/require for me and the baby?

If you don't like the answers, shop for another OB.   There are a ton out there and it's so much easier to change now than later if you're not 100% comfortable with the answers.  You will have almost 20 appointments with these people; make sure you really like them!

     Hope that helps!!

  • It seems like a million years since my first OB appt with this baby, but I think I asked my doctor if there was anything I should do differently, or she would do differently, this time around.
