Today's my first day teaching this semester. I had some on campus stuff to do, so I got there early. Futzted around, got my stuff done, headed to class.
Showed up to my classroom with two minutes to spare.
This is good--no time to be awkwardly sitting there waiting, no rushed coming in and having to take off six layers while they all look at me.
Nobody's there. Take a deep breath, log on to facebook.
And then it's 9:30, and I'm the only one in the classroom.
Frantically pull up the registrar's webpage, nightmares of being in the wrong room, or fired, or suddenly and inexplicably naked except for my boots, or somehow having lost a day and it's Wednesday, flying through my head.
Discover that I teach at 9:45, not 9:30, and that I now have the full awkwardness of being there way early and having to greet each student who walks into the room with a smile.
Who says Mondays only come once a week?
Re: First day of school first day of school!
That sucks....
I still have nightmares about the first day of class, being in the wrong room or not knowing my schedule (despite the fact that I don't teach and haven't had a class in a few years now). A few of them have had the registrars or advisor's office (depending if it's a college or HS dream) in a really odd glass enclosed area. Half the time they've given my schedule out to other people. I HATE these dreams... *shudders*
I'm sorry, bug...
I totally had that nightmare two nights ago! I swear I'm an adult...
Okay, maybe not, but it sounds good.

suuuuure.... *pats the 12-year old on the head*
I had a director who beat into our heads that to be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is to be dead.
Things like that stick
