Blended Families

Hard to decide if I should laugh or scold her....

So, we got SD for the evening. BM didn't give us the info on her new bf. No info, no paperwork. Period.

Anyway, I noticed SD seemed kinda "fussy" so I asked her what time she went to bed the night before. She said, "Sometime after 9." Her bedtime is 8, she knows it's 8, BM knows its 8, its on the freaking CO. So, I asked her why she didn't go to bed on time. She tells me with a straight face that her mom wasn't home and since it was just BM's bf, she threw a temper tantrum, stomped her feet (she is demonstrating this for me) and screamed, " I don't want to go to bed!" until he gave her a snack and told her she could stay up.

Now, she would never even dream of trying this in our house, and we did have a serious talk about how she needs to go to bed on time no matter where she is, but between her "demonstration" of her temper tantrum and imagining BM's bf trying to deal with it....I had to excuse myself so I could laugh MAO.

I know, I know. But if you could have seen her.....::giggle:: Oh lord, i'm not ready for a teenager!

  • Hell Gosse, I am not ready either.

Monkey will actually YELL at me.  Not scream, but raise her voice and dress me down for not doing what she wants, all the while point at me and then bang her chest. Then she will walk away with this look of disdain of her face.

And she will get even MORE expressive/pushy when people are around.  Just to let everyone know who is boss.

  • Smart girl!  She's showing you who she can mess with.  Too funny!
  • I had the same reaction when I found out our SS (6 years old at the time) was getting BM to wipe his bottom after using the bathroom on her weekends.
Stay at home mom to a house of boys: two amazing stepsons, 12 and 9, and our 4 year old.

That's pretty much what DH and I decided. She knows she can play him, and she's at that age for pushing limits.

This reminds me of my God daughter. She is a little over 2. I guess her mom kept telling her she needed to "put away" her attitude, so the other day she brings her mom this empty box and tells her she put her attitude in it for the day. :) She is also a feet stomper drama queen. It's cute now, but man, if my friend doesn't get control of it i'm scared for her in the future!
