Teething biscuits: yea or nay?

DD isn't quite teething yet, but she will be sooner or later.  What's the deal with teething biscuits?  My mom says they're a godsend, other moms have said they're horrifically messy.  WDYT?  Good/bad experiences with these?

Re: Teething biscuits: yea or nay?

  • Eh, DS didn't take to them very well.  Frozen bagels have been our Godsend.

  • I make my own using one of the recipes on wholesomebabyfood.com.  He LOVES them.   The recipe I used has no sugar, eggs or wheat, and I can use rice cereal in them.  They are messy (even though they're hard as rocks); he gets them crusted all over his hands, face, clothes, our clothes etc., but they've really been helpful for him as well.  Be careful of them breaking though, as always.

this, except i haven't made any.

they're INSANELY messy, and DS always manages to break off big pieces into his mouth.

i usually give him a big apple slice in a mesh feeder or a carrot to chew on nowadays.

  • Messy, very messy.  I hate them.

  • i never used them wtih griffin- they make a freakin mess. there are a ton of other things that i think are better... frozen bagel, piece of frozen banana in a mesh feeder, frozen washcloth, etc.
  • DS loves them, he screams at me when I take it away because they have broken up too much.  DH can't watch him with it and refuses to touch him.  I put a bib on him, pull up his sleeves and put him in his high chair.  I may look at the mesh feeder though based on pp.  The biscuit gets all soggy and nasty.

I think we have the same highchair.  Chicco Polly?

  • they're too much of a mess
  • B has had them a few times.  I do what the pp said- roll up her sleeves (or take her shirt off altogether), put a bib on her, and let her go to town on it in her highchair.  I just watch her closely.

  • I just gave DS one the other day and he loved it! I got organic vanilla ones. He hates teething rings, washcloths, fruit in the mesh feeder, etc., so this was great.

And he didn't make too much of a mess with it, and no pieces broke off. It was his first one ever, though, and he didn't even come close to finishing. But I'll have to try this frozen bagel idea...

This was about 10 minutes after I gave it to him:
