AW--making my own babyfood is a thumbs up

So, the first day with the solids was horrid as you may remember...but, I pushed through and took the advice of making sure he wasn't super hungry when we tried it.  I also bought the organic Gerber sweet potatoes.

so, day 2 went great and he loved the sweet potatoes.  I then did some more reading about making my own food (thanks for the links ladies), and I decided to buy some winter squash.  I made some acorn squash and froze some in the ice cube trays.  Today was day 2 of the acorn squash and Logan is a squash eating maniac.  He is doing so well with the veggies.  Next I am going to try either carrots or butternut squash.

I really like making my own food, and in the long run, it is cheaper.  Big Smile

  • I'm glad you posted this.  I just wrote an entry on my blog about how I'm planning on attempting to make my own baby food.  It's nice to see a teacher (like me) who has the time and energy to do it!!  Good luck and I'm happy that things are going better for you.

  • I had baby food Sundays! I'd bake up everything in the oven squish and freeze it.

I'm actually still finding fruit/veg icecubes in the back of the freezer :)

glad it's going better for ya

That's what I did on Sunday.  My tray holds 18 cubes, so it'll last me for a while (well, while he is only eating veggies at dinner anyway).  I think this Sunday I will do the carrots. (and maybe the butternut too)

  • I love making my own food so I'm glad it's going well for you. Plus it's helping me get him to try more of a variety of foods than he would with just jarred food.
  • you're making me hungry for squash!
  • Wurd.

I'm loving making food.  I'm still working on getting green beans just right, but sweet potatoes & squash have been hugely successful in our house too.

  • Yay, I'm glad he liked the squash! Rhett loved butternut squash. I have some sweet potatoes and bananas in the kitchen I'm getting ready to make and freeze for the little guys. Need to quit procrastinating and get it done.
