3rd Trimester

sore knuckles

this could be 100% unrelated to pregnancy, but i'm asking anyway.

do anyone else's knuckles hurt?
mine hurt mostly at night and in the early morning.  it feels like i would imagine arthritis to feel, except i don't have that.  it started about a week ago.  i plan to ask at my next visit.

anyone else?

nothing is swollen, btw.

Re: sore knuckles

  • I haven't noticed that, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is related to the relaxin hormone.  I've read that it relaxes everything in the body which is why many women notice their feet swell or even permanently spread and change size.  I'm not sure it would hurt, but i might be uncomfortable if you use your hands to type a lot or anything.

  • YES!!!

same exact thing happens to me. I asked my doc about it this morning at my appt. He said its totally normal, and it will prob get worse for about 2wks after birth but its nothing to worry about. whew!

  • the list of pregnancy side effects has no end-lol
  • I asked my doc around 36-37 weeks. ?It's actually water being retained in the joints... Not in the flesh to cause swelling, but in the actual knuckle. ?It's normal. ? I don't have swelling anywhere else, but he told me to cut down on salt (not that I eat a lot of salt), drink lots of water (of course) and if that doesn't help a warm shower or bath will help loosen up the joint and release the water.?

  • awesome. thanks, ladies.
