Babies: 9 - 12 Months

a lady at target made me cry tonight

We were shopping for shampoo.

A woman was canvassing the aisles, shouting, "MARIAH" over and over again.

Her voice was getting more and more panicked whenever she called out her daughter's name and the girl didn't respond.

A few of us helped join the search and a target employee came over, paged the team, and the woman wandered away with the employee, distraught.

As we walked away to finish our shopping, my chest got tight and I suddenly burst into tears. What a sick feeling, losing your child. I could hear the panic in her voice as she became more frantic that her child --  who was 10 -- wasn't responding.

I must be PMSing, because otherwise I'm truly not such a sap. Honest.

(the girl was found, I later learned. We asked on our way out)

  • That would definitely tug at my emotions.

I cried in Walmart tonight while picking out a greeting card for my husband for our wedding anniversary.  I'm a sap, too.

  • i don't think you're a sap at all, i probably would've cried too:(
  • I would have felt the same way.
  • I'm glad she found her daughter.

I used to get panicky when my little brother was out of sight when babysitting.

I can't imagine with my son.

  • I would of cried!

We found a little boy at one of the biggest malls ever 3 floors and he was walking and crying alone! He was about 3. My GF saw him 1st and stopped him and asked where his parents where. The LO didnot speak english at all he kept sobbing! So we tok him to the lost and found, We were in line with him and I was looking for a distraught parent and lo and behold I see a dad looking franticly and I wave at him and he came running! He snatched him up and started yelling at him in chinese. Poor kid I know he was scared I guess that was his 1st response. He didn't even thank us...booo but Thank god we found him 1st and not some perv

  • yup to both the panicky feeling and the crying.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • I'm sure that's a horrible feeling, when your child is lost and can't find them.
  • I am totally going to get paid back by my children.  I was the worst at hiding in the clothes racks with my sisters.  We would go in there and then whisper "buy me!" to people who were shopping.  My mother always got mad at us for doing that.  I wonder why... Tongue Tied

I am glad this woman found her child.  I worked at Target through high school and college, and I know they have fantastic proceedures for that scenario.  They make sure no one leaves the store until the child has been found and reunited, and all team members drop what they are doing to look for the child.
