2nd Trimester

Theme park rides while pregnant

I'm taking my dance team to Nationals at Disney World in the beginning of February, so I'll be about 17 weeks then.  Are rollercoasters and such completely off limits, or only the ones that have bars that pass around your tummy?  I'm going to be so upset if I can't ride some of the rides during the trip.  It'll be such a good way to bond with my team.

I'm going to ask my doctor about it and see what she has to say.  I can't see why certain things would be off limits if it doesn't hit the belly..  Whatcha think?

  • I think that most are off limits. There are signs at each ride with who cannot ride also check the website and your Dr.!
  • My doctor said no to rollercoasters.

  • We are going to WDW for 8 days when I am 20 wks. I can ride all the rides in fantasy land with the exception of the barnstormer in toontown. Other than that, I'm SOL. It doesn't bother me any, I hate roller coasters. Just don't ride anything bumpy or any roller coasters and you will be ok. I know that doesn't leave a lot.
  • Hope you like "It's a small world" because that might be all you're able to go on :(

Call Disney World customer service and ask what rides are okay for pregnant women... I'm sure they have a list. Either way it's Disney! You'll have fun no matter what :)

  • I would not go on any unless they are the kind with no hills or jerking around at all.  It's a Small World would probably be safe....most likely any of the rides that don't have a seat belt (b.c they are so slow) are fine.  I'd still ask though, and stay completely away from anything fast and jerky.  The pregnant body is not supposed to be all jerked and jostled around on a rollercoaster.

  • Roller coasters are definitely off limits. You'll get?jostled?around too much - much like being in a car accident. I know they sound fun but the risk is too great. I'm sorry, but you're looking at the tea cup ride and other similar low-impact calm rides.?

  • There is no way I would risk it.

  • I would not risk it at all.  You have to remember most rides do more than make contact with your belly, they also shake you around a lot, especially the faster rides.  I personally would not do it and I am in the same boat.  I am taking my music class to a themepark when I am about 27 weeks.

  • Definitely ask your doctor. We are going to a water park when I am 17 weeks pregnant and my doctor cleared me for the slides.  He also said he would clear me for most modern day roller coasters!

Really?  This possibility makes me so happy!  I'll ask when I go in next week!

If not, I sure do love the Peter Pan ride. and the Buzz Lightyear one!

  • Disney posts which rides are ok for pregnant women. Sorry but I wouldn't risk any that aren't. But you just brought back memories of when I was on dance team and we went to Orlando for Nationals. How much fun that was! Enjoy what you can and good luck to your team!
  • It's funny, I just asked this question last week and got some good replies!  Here are the two links some bumpers left me:

Hope this helps!  I leave for WDW this Thursday and have decided to see which rides say "no pregnant women."  Peter Pan, It's a small World, and Finding Nemo show in theater are so far the only rides I'm for sure ok with.  Have fun!

  • We opted out of Disney this spring break due to me being pregnant. Instead we are doing Seaworld in San Antonio.... my stepson said he wanted to go see that big whale named Shampoo.... lol he meant shamu!

  • Ps- I learned that it's not just the low bar across the tummy that's dangerous.  Even the Jeep trip in Animal Kingdom is off limits because the jarring and jerking have known to actually detatch placentas and cause MCs and early deliveries.

  • I went to a theme park when I was 14 weeks pregnant with my grade 9 class and didn't go on any rides because I didn't want to risk it. I would never forgive myself if something bad happened.
  • When you get on the rides the rules say no pregnant women so that's enough to keep me off.

  • There are a ton of other things to do at Disney that wouldn't put you or your baby at risk. Each park has a couple of rollercoaster type rides to avoid, but the majority of Disney attractions are not this type of ride. It isn't like other theme parks that are all about thrill rides. Just check the brochure online. It tells you which rides are not okay for pregnant women.

If I were you, I'd enjoy some of the shows and the slower paced rides. It'll still be tons of fun to be in the park amidst all of the excitement. Have fun!

  • I would be worried about a Dr. who tells me it is ok to go on a modern roller coaster. Since I work at a Theme Park currently, my advice is to clearly read the provided information available at the park. They have it there for a reason. Have you ever been stuck on a roller coaster? How about one at the top of a drop? If you get stuck at the top, you get to climb hundreds of steps down to the bottom, which I have done numerous times Not pregnant and it's scary! I suggest finding more stable places to bond with your team. JMO!

  • Disney's site has specifics for all rides. They will specifically say "expectant mothers should not ride". There are only 14 rides in all 4 main parks that are allegedly off-limits. Most of them are no more dangerous than riding in a car, but I would avoid the big thrill rides (Rock 'n' Roller Coaster & Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios, Dinosaur & Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom, Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom, and Mission:Space & Test Track at EPCOT). We're going for a babymoon over spring break, so I've been researching.

The park also suggests against Splash Mountain in MK too, but I plan on riding it. I'm not someone who is overly cautious about some things and I'm very familiar with how the ride operates. Talk to your doctor and only ride what you feel comfortable with. There are certainly lots of things to see, ride, and do without those few attractions.

  • I wouldn't, the theme park may have rules against it anyway. Even if the bars don't hit the belly, baby would get jostled around like nobody's business...can't be good.
  • I found this article online that gives pretty good information on what rides you can go on at DisneyLand. Maybe you can use it to help you narrow it down for Disney World.

I was told by midwife that the only rides at amusement parks that must be avoided are roller coasters/fast paced rides with jerking movement. Luckily Disney has plenty of rides that are made for young kids so most will be just fine.
