Help - my DH works for the airlines so we can fly for free. He really wants us to go to FL to see his grandma who is in her 90's. My kids are almost 2 and 3 1/2. Flight from MN has a layover in Atlanta so we are looking at half a day of traveling. We would fly out Sat morning and come back Monday morning. Weather report in FL where she lives for the weekend is saying 70's and rain. Only thing this would cost us is a rental car and food as we would stay with her. I personally have no interest in going but am doing this for DH (his grandma is not a wonderful person and my DH is not close to her but he feels he "needs" to do this). If it rains, we are stuck in her non-child proofed house with nothing to do and she can't really walk far so not a lot of options for entertainment or stuff like that. If it was nice, we could spend a ton of time at the pool. I told DH to make the call but man, I so don't want to go and through the girls totally off schedule for what could be a long weekend of sitting around.
Re: WWYD: Florida for the weekend
I would go. If for no other reason than to support your dh. Besides, I would take 70's and raining over 20 and sunny anytime.
My baby is two!!! Baby girl 9/17/09
My other baby is still a baby! Baby Boy 11-30-11
are you coming to Jacksonville? LOL that's our weather forecast for this weekend.
If she is in her 90s and your DH feels the need to go, i think you should support him. If she dies and he never got to see her, he might blame you.
You can always find an indoor activity. The malls have play areas, there are other things you can do. Rainy in Florida doesn't necessarily mean that it will rain all weekend long.
I would take the 70s and rain over the current weather. However, I would hate the layover and keeping your kids occupied on two planes. Are you going to have a car when you get to FL? If not, you are right that you might be confined to her house without many options. I would go because I would feel guilty if something happened and DH didn't get to see her.
