Are you buying a second crib, toddler bed, or twin bed?
DD#1 is still happy in her crib, and I'd like to keep her there as long as possible, she'll be almost 2 when #2 is born. We kept DD in our room for the first 6 months and will likely do the same with #2.
I guess this is more of a WWYD. Sorry if it's been asked a million times, I searched but found nothing.
Re: For those who aren't doing a new nursery for #2 or having kids share a room
Plan A:
Baby 2 will be in the bassinet feature of the PNP for 2 months or so in our room like DD. Around her second birthday, we plan to introduce DD to her "big girl room and bed" and then have baby 2 move into the nursery.
PLAN B:
In the event DD does not take to her big girl bed, we will buy cheap crib from IKEA and place it in our guest room for baby 2.
DS never did well in his crib-slept in our room in bassinet and then with us. ARRRGGG is all I have to say 19 months later. We have finally transitioned him to a twin bed in what will be their shared room in about 4 weeks. If he was still in a crib and sleeping well, I would have bought a second crib off CL for the new baby and left DS in the first crib, under the assumption that if DC is sleeping well, don't mess with it.
In general, I wouldn't rush the transition to a bed. Get a used crib or PNP and keep the older one in the crib.
In your situation, I would not buy a second crib. If you plan to have the baby in the pnp until for 6 months, you have plenty of time to work on a transition to a toddler or twin bed.
I'm not really sure what you're asking, so I'll tell you what we did:
DD2 slept in our room in the PNP bassinet, then moved to the crib in the nursery around 8 weeks. We had already moved DD1 to her new room and twin bed around 21 months (3 months prior to baby) and she did just fine. BUT... if yours is doing fine in her crib, I'd certainly leave her there for the time being. Much easier if they are somewhat contained!
We are getting another convertible crib for #2. DD#1 is still in her crib, and i don't forsee her needing to move to a toddler bed any time soon, and I'd like her to stay in the crib for as long as possible. #2's crib will be upstairs with us and when she is old enough, she will move into her sister's room.
we're ordering the Graco Sarah 4 in 1 from walmart.com this friday I'm so excited!
This is basically our plan(s) too. We will keep the new baby in our room in the PNP until he is 4ish months old (whenever he hits the weight limit). By that time hopefully DD will be ready to transition to a twin bed. If not, we have some friends with an extra crib that they would loan us until she is ready.
our crib converted to a toddler bed, so we were going to do that for DD#1 and buy a second crib for #2, but we decided to get DD a twin bed instead. i was nervous because she loved her crib, but the transtition was very smooth and she sleeps great in her bed.
