Help me pick- bridesmaid dress for friend's wedding

My friend is getting married in August, and is letting us choose between two different dresses (well three, but I don't care for one of them at all). We need to order by April 3, and with my due date the week before, I can't exactly try them on to see which looks better. So I need help deciding what dress. Normally, I'm a size 6, and 5'3, if it matters. I'm drawn to the strapless moreso than the halter, but I don't know if I'm just signing myself up for disaster with potentially giant boobs. My arms aren't exactly toned right now, but I have time after baby, right? :)

Let me know what you think. I know I have 4 full months after baby, so none of my current body issues may be a problem. Don't even ask how I'm going to go about ordering a size.

The color is "riviera"- the second to last color in the lineup, it's blue.

Option A

Option B

  • I love A....not so much B

  • I think the halter is really cute. Good luck!

  • Option B. I hate those bubble dresses. They remind me of party dresses I wore as a kid...ridiculous on adults!

ETA: apparently B is a bubble hem too...it just doesn't look as poufy. I still say B.

  • I like the strapless one the best!

  • I hate bows...so I have to go with B.  :)
  • I like Option B the best and that surprises the heck out of me b/c I usually hate halter necklines.  I'm sorry you have to wear taffeta in August.  That seems odd.

  • I like B as long as it doesn't cause armpit fat ( I hate that ) A is also gorg. just not sure how annoying it will be to constantly pull it up!

  • Option B, definitely.  That waistline will help define your waist if needed at all.  I can't imagine going strapless with Mommy boobs!
  • I vote A too. Totally cute and a forgiving waistline. :)

  • Option A is super cute!!! Option B...not so much!

  • Personally I think girls with a bigger chest dont look as good in strapless...so If you are one of the lucky ones with big boobies I would go with option B. If you have more of a small chest then definitely option A

  • Definitely A.  Bubble dresses are so fun and flattering.
  • B.  I really do not like the bubble dresses.

  • Halter. I personally think that strapless is unflattering on most people and starting to look dated anyway. Halters are much more flattering for most body types.

I think it depends on the cut of the dress. I had a bunch of bigger chested ladies in my wedding and I gave them the option of strapless or halter.  All but one chose the strapless and she definitely looked like she couldn't breathe through the entire ceremony.  The dress kind of smothered her.

Personally, I love, love, love number 1.  But this is coming from a smalelr chested girl Wink

  • You will probably be more comfortable in a halter.  Also you might want to go a size up beacause you can always get it taken in if you are back to your pre-pregnancy size.

  • Haha, I love how everyone is basically split! I guess that's why she's letting us choose either dress.

I guess maybe I need to go in and actually look at these. I'm leaning towards A, but I think B may be more flattering on me. I just don't love halters in general.

Oh and FWIW, the bubble hem and bow doesn't bug me, I'm more turned off by taffeta in Aug (an outside wedding, to boot).

Thanks ladies- keep the opinions coming, I do love hearing what you think...

  • i'd go with A - esp if you're concerned about your chest. the sask and bow cut a little lower, so it will draw the attention away a bit more.
  • I would choose option A :)

    This exactly

  • I'd go with option A. I personally like that one much better!

  • I like the looks of A  a little better...but if you are planning to be breastfeeding at that time, I don't know that strapless is the way to go.  Especially if you are large-chested to begin with.

  • I love A but I would probably go with B if you are planning to breastfeed as your boobs could be huge.

  • from the reviews, it looks like the strapless dress fit a variety of different shaped women the best, one said "The flair from above the waist accommodated her baby bump" so that might be something to consider.

There are a few pictures of the dress in real life, and it doesn't like nearly as poofy as it does on the website.

That being said, if you have big boobs, a strapless dress might be too difficult wear... but you could always get a friend/seamtress to add straps for you. The sash (assuming the bow as well) is removable. So you could use the fabric from the bow and make straps.

Option B looks like it has more coverage on top. Otherwise they look pretty much the same to me.

  • i like "a". i don't think "b" is cute at all. also, i think you'll have plenty of time to look like your old self again for the wedding.....besides both dresses are loose on the bottom so if you were still carrying extra weight down there it wouldn't be as noticeable.

  • I really like A.  I like puffy dresses!  Also, if the strapless top is a problem, maybe you can have straps put on.  Or maybe it is an option that they are included.  Sometimes David's Bridal has dresses that come with straps even though it is labeled as a strapless dress.

  • i have a larger chest and look way better in a strapless than that shape halter.
