I have a c-sec question too. I've heard several people say to keep up on pain medications after your c-section. They have said that you feel better, recover quicker etc. The one time I took vicodin (after having teeth pulled), I hated it. I hated the way it made me feel - groggy and out of it. I don't know how much pain I'll be in and obviously abdominal surgery vs getting teeth pulled is going to be way different, maybe I'll be begging for them. But just wondering, has anyone recovered well without of narcotic meds?

Re: c-section recovery and pain meds
I don't have twins, just lurking... but I had a c/s- was on meds in the hospital- some good IV stuff that didn't make me too loopy. I took percoset in the hospital 2-3 times.
Was in for 3 days, and only took ibuprofen when I got home. I did have a lot of pain with getting up and down, but I also hate vicodin- it makes me puke and that's still what they wrote the rx for!
After about a week I felt much better, and almost normal after 2 weeks. HTH!
you can take 800mg of advil every 4-6 hours which shouldn't make you feel badly like the opiods do (vicodin, percocet, etc). Most studies are showing that a high dose of ibuprofen/advil actually releives pain better than the opiods - so take that instead and you shoudl be fine.
I pretty much only took Advil during the day and used the percocet at night b/c it also made me sleepier.
The dr. prescribed me 600 mg motrin tabs in the hospital along with the pain killer. I should have said in my C tip post earlier that I was suggesting to take the meds around the clock--at the hospital. That is only when I felt the pain was great enough to take them. Otherwise, the heavy duty Motrin worked just fine (if you don't get a prescrip., dr. said you can just take 3 200 mg. OTC ibuprof. and it works just as well).
I was happy to have taken the pain pill that 1st night after the epidural wore off, but that is just me. You gotta take only what YOU feel comfortable with!! I only had a few days Rx of the pain killer which I didn't take once I was out of the hospital b/c DH had to be back to work in another state and I knew I didn't want anything in my system that would make it harder to take care of my girls solo.
HTH
I had a c/s and the nurse told me that they gave me some sort of Morphine either in the IV or the spinal. I am not a 100% sure at this point.
I have never had morphine in my life and I remember 99.9% of that day.
In addition my hospital keeps you hooked up to an IV for 24 hours after and they feed any meds to you via that line.
I never asked for pain meds while I had the IV hooked up. My morning nurse told me that she was going to be giving me percoset(?) and that I needed to keep on the meds if I felt pain or not. The percoset were every 4 hours and the Motrin every 6 hours.
I kept on the meds because I was afraid of having break through pain which is harder to get rid of IMO.
I wasn't groggy or out of it. I would get a little tired when the meds would get into my system - but when that happened I would just get up and move around.
By the time I was home from the hospital I didn't really need the pain meds, I just used them to help me go to sleep. Bad I know but I had to do what I had to do.
