I'm giving away my whole stash...

...to my brother.  Josh should be fully potty trained by the time their baby arrives.  (Fingers crossed, right??)  *If* they're serious about using cloth, I'll give them everything they need, and then some.

Now, if I could just know that they're serious.

Huh?

  • If they fully understood the money savings that could come from that, I'd think it would make them very serious about using cloth!  How generous of you :)  Good luck with the potty training!  (I am not looking forward to that....)
  • lucky dog!
  • That's super generous! I hope they are serious because those are some huge savings for them!
  • That's fabulous!  I know what you mean though.  I gave my orange edge prefolds to my cousin and his wife but I just saw their registry and they have a bunch of sposies listed along with some cloth.  Confused  I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they're just nervous new parents, but it does make me a bit sad.

Exactly.  His wife has two daughters from a previous marriage, both of which were diapered with disposables.  I'm in no way judging her choice -- heck, I diapered with disposables before I discovered cloth, too.

I would just be so incredibly sad to have my beloved stash sit and rot.  There are some really nifty things in there that I really just want to have loved.  I put a whole lot of time, effort, and love into my stash and would be so so soooo sad if it didn't continue to get good use by someone who appreciates it.  KWIM?

I totally understand.  I was trying to think of a nice way to say could you send these back to me if you don't use them, but I just let it go.  And that's only prefolds - I don't know how I'd feel if it was my whole stash, let alone all the things you've made yourself!  I really hope they appreciate what a fabulous gift you're giving them.

can you give them a gentle prodding like,  "if you decide not to use these, if you wouldn't mind returning them so i can pass them along to a friend who might be able to use them?"

just so they realize that they shouldn't hide the fact that they aren't using them, if they decide not to...and so your beautiful diapers get some love with someone else?

This is a great idea.  Heck, I'll even give them a RS (return service) UPS label to ship them back if they're not going to get use.

He said he would only consider using used diapers if they were from me (which I totally get, honestly).  Would it be bad if I stalked Spots for some more BG Organics (probably the best diaper for their situation), sanitize the heck out of them, use them once or twice, and called them mine???

  • Wow how generous!! I'm doing the same with my NB stash and a friend after baby Charlie grows out of it. She is due in July so it should just work out. Then she'll send them back to me in case we decide we want three kids. Otherwise they'll get sold at that point.
  • I'll cross my fingers for you  :)

  • i made several newborn fitteds and i gave my entire size small stash to my BFF who had her twins over a month ago. She is still using the disposables that everyone gave her for showers, but hasn't even tried the cloth at all. I'd said if she wasn't going to use them to let me know, as I want them back eventually anyway, but she SWEARs they are going to CD. I feel stingy at the very thought of it, but i will admit here that it is burning me up knowing those diapers are sitting in a box. I saw some of the newborn sized flannel/OBV prefolds i made are being used as burp rags, which is great i guess, but not what i made them for :(

ETA: and that is very generous of you and hopefully you have inspired them to give CDs a serious try. And if you are confident that they will do it, i'd totally be scouting out other CDs for them if you have the funds.

  • OMG- What I wouldn't give! Unfortunately I don't know a soul that has CD'd and for those I've told I'm doing it- they think I'm insane! ;)

Your brother is one lucky duck!

  • How nice of you!
