A friend is getting married on Saturday and as I get bigger, my closet gets smaller and I feel like I have nothing to wear. I have black trousers and a pretty black and white sheer blouse I could wear, which would look nice but aren't as nice as what I would normally wear to a wedding. Ordinarily I would wear a black cocktail dress but my maternity wardrobe contains no such dress. Motherhood has one on their website I could order, but I'm hesitant. Here's why:
If I wear a
dress, I have to wear cutesy shoes and right now, cankles and general
foot swelling are causing problems. I have one pair of shoes that fit
(they look fine with pants but I couldn't wear them with a dress or a
skirt) and I already wear an 11 wide so finding bigger dress shoes is
an issue. Because of the swelling, I'm doing better in a shoe that
goes over my whole foot as opposed to dress shoes that leave the top of
my foot exposed (and puffy).
Also, it's January in Chicago and we have snow up to our knees. There is no parking at the venue so I know we will be walking from where ever we find street parking.
Am I just searching for justification when really I should be sucking it up and buying a dress? Or are my reasons for wearing pants legit?
Re: Is it okay to wear trousers to a wedding?
Agree with prior posts...if it's an evening wedding and the invitations says black tie, then you should be wearing a dress. In all other instances, you have every right to wear pants and a nice top. Dress it up with accessories and a great hair do and you'll look fab! Hey - you're about 8 months pregnant...a little leeway can be given.
Have fun!
IMO, Pregnant ladies can wear whatever they like. I'm sure given the situation, date and snow...you should be fine.
This!
ok, the argument of "you can wear whatever you want when you are pregnant" isn't true. YOu shouldn't show up to a cocktail party in jeans.
Sorry, that was bugging me.
But, like I said, I think the outfit you described sounds fine.
