So i was readyingthe book Toddlerwise and there is a chapter in the book regarding schedules and how you should schedule out your childs entire day but half hour increments. Just wondering if any one does this? I thought i was doing good that dd has breakfest, lunch and nap around the same time and bedtime is always at 7. everything inbetween is kind of random. I went to bed wondering if i am doing this parenting thing right.
Also there was a part in the book that said the child should have playtime alone in there room or on a blanket and should play until you tell them they can come out. Any one doing this? DD will play by herself without me asking her too figured that was good.
Just curious...thanks
Re: daily schedule?
if you think you are doing well with your child's schedule, then put the book away and don't let it make you doubt yourself anymore.
i can't imagine telling DD she HAS to play alone in her room till i tell her she can come out. that would make play time a chore instead of, well... playtime. she plays alone in bursts throughout the day when she wants to. not because i force her to.
I do the same as you. I anchor bedtime and I anchor nap about 90% of the time and let the rest occur somewhat randomly. See, I don't think it's as random as all that though. I mean, it's just natural if you nap and go to sleep at night at the same times every day to be hungry at similar times, to poop/pee at similar times. And this leads to having play times occur at pretty regular times, too. Does that make sense?
Do I do 1/2hr increments? Nope. But I do like to freshen up the day by playing in different rooms for about that long (it's a natural stopping point for us it seems.......she gets bored and we move on by about that length of time).
I LOVE that we have a set bedtime and naptime and I will do the same with DS when he's old enough for that, but I would go nutso if I had to schedule her LIFE down to 1/2 hr increments...............ESPECIALLY when that "schedule" seems to occur naturally on it's own (more or less) kwim?
thanks for the input...think i will put the book down and continue what i am doing since she is sleeping great and eating pretty good. She is happy and healthy!!
