So we are finally doing the nursery! Yay!! Do you guys think its bad to place the crib under a window? In her nursery out of the three walls we could use only one does not have a window and its the worst location.
Do what you need to do, but you may want to make sure the windows don't have a draft, and a dark enough cover.
Missed miscarriage discovered at 16 weeks on 10/11/10. Baby measuring 12 weeks. Natural miscarriage 10/12/10. We will miss you forever.
Chemical pregnancy on June 2012.
I think it reeeeally depends on the window. We keep SS's bed far away from windows. Its not as convenient, but its way safer. We also put up a baby gate in the window frame.
Granted, he is 3, and can move around. So maybe you are safe until LO can stand...
If it has dangling cords, and blinds then I would say no as both can be a safety hazard for young children.
I would agree with this, unfortunately. If you have coverings that only have the pull-string cord for raising/lowering, you can always get a hook to wrap the cord around.
But, if you have the normal kind of blinds that use strings throughout for the pulley-mechanism, I wouldn't do this. Unless of course you want to for the first six or eight months and then move the crib to the wall with no window once baby can actually reach the blinds.
Not if you plan on using corded blinds (there are cordless ones, but then again, I bet those could be yanked down as well). I'd also make sure that the windows were able to be locked.
Another concern would be LO using a hard toy to bag at the window. So, now that I talked myself through this, no I wouldn't put a crib there, lol.
I am a 100% lurker, haha, you will notice I have no tickers, profile etc. However, I definitely felt the need to make this my first post.
My brother is a firefighter/emt and can tell you stories of babies/toddlers/preschoolers who hung themselves on the pull cords of blinds/curtains. So, if you do decide to put the crib near the window, please, please make sure you have no cords or strings hanging down. You can buy blinds now that are cordless or just wrap them up securely at the very top of the window.
If it's not drafty and has no cords dangling, it should be ok for awhile. As soon as LO is standing and can possibly reach the glass, I would move it. My son can be a wild man in his crib when he doesn't want to nap and it would make me nervous having him near a window at this age.
We had the same problem in our nursery. Two walls had windows, 1 wall had the closet and the 4th wall was right when you walked in so you'd be walking into the crib if we put it there.
We angled our crib in the corner of the 2 walls that had windows. It looks great!
Something else to consider is whether you have any trees near the window. We have lots of tall mature trees in our yard/neighborhood and I originally had DDs crib in front of the window in the nursery b/c it looked best there but DH was freaked that high winds or heaven forbid a tornado might spew broken glass onto our baby.
In his defense, 2 years after he made this seemingly ridiculous argument to me - straight-line winds uprooted a 40 foot tall tree onto our upstairs (where both of our DDs rooms are). No windows were broken but I did find his concerns less silly after that.

Ok, now back to my lurking...
This. DH and I just saw a show on baby safety/proofing your house and they said the worst location to put a crib is under a window.
