Success after IF

Am I the world's most annoying patient? Kinda long.

Okay, so I had an ultrasound a few weeks ago and was measuring 8w5d. A week and a half later, I had some spotting and called the OB. She said I was probably fine but I asked if I could have another ultrasound. She begrudgingly said she would "humor me." So, I got another one, with the bitc*iest ultrasound tech I have ever had who basically said not a word to me the whole time until I asked at the end what I was measuring and the heartbeat, and then she said things looked fine.

Fast forward to this weekend, a week and a half later. I had a bunch of red blood after going to the bathroom. It tapered off and changed to pink and then brown spotting. I called the OB on call and she said there was nothing I could really do over the weekend, but to call my OB on Monday.

So, tomorrow I'm going to call and I'm so nervous because I know she's going to be crabby with me. I really want to ask for another ultrasound-- this was way more bleeding than I had with the earlier spotting and is comprable to last pregnancy when I had the SCH. But I think she's going to tell me no because she thinks I am a paranoid lunatic. I admit that last pregnancy I was pretty annoying and called a lot. This pregnancy I have honestly been much more relaxed, but bleeding freaks me out a lot. What can I say?

I have my NT scan in a week. Am I crazy to ask for an ultrasound tomorrow?

  • I would want an ultrasound if I had bleeding.

But I may be neurotic and annoying  Well, ok, I am nerotic and annoying.  I guess I could talk myself off the ledge if I was sure the bleeding was gone, but I'd still ask for one.

  • I don't think you're crazy, but then I was a paranoid patient (I think).  I had 2-3 "freak-out" u/s just to ease my mind. I always felt weird calling and asking, but I did it and they obliged. I would definately try and get an u/s. Piece of mind is a great thing.

  • I would want a doppler at least. GL!
  • I can't say if you're annoying, but I would be pretty freaked out if I was bleeding.  I'd want certainty that things were okay and a reason for the bleeding, what ever way they had to assure and explain it to me.

  • I don't think that you are being annoying--honestly, I'm if this is how your OB (and the staff) act, I would consider looking for a new OB.  You are the patient.  If you request procedures that the doctor doesn't feel are approrpiate, s/he should explain to you in a professional and kind manner why they are not.

I hope that you get your u/s so that you can have some peace of mind!

  • I don't think you are being annoying at all.  I've called my ob nurse at least 6 times since I found out I was pg this time.  I've questioned her on everything and she had to talk me out of a panic attack one day.  All 3 of the ob's I see know all about my anxiety and I've had 5 u/s so far.  They've fit me into their schedule on days when I'm just super anxious. Their job is to make you feel comfortable and confident with your pg!  Don't feel bad at all about calling especially when you have a totally valid reason to want an u/s.  You are paying them to provide you with the best care possible.  I'm sorry the office staff isn't always friendly.  That would really upset me but it wouldn't stop me from calling with a concern.

This and frankly I would find a new OB.  My OB would do an ultrasound for me even if nothing was wrong and I was just feeling anxious.
