Nipple confusion- does it actually happen?

I hear about it when you breastfeed, and then you fee the baby a bottle.....

so I have been looking at these bottles.

They are a bit pricey but def worth spending the money if nipple confusion really happens, and will keep my baby breastfeeding longer :0)

  • I heard they went out of business.

  • every baby is different, but I have to say ds never had nipple confusion, but flow confusion. If the nipple was too fast then when he BF he wouldnt work as hard for it to come out.

So I would try a regular bottle, a wide mouth works well for going back and forth and keeping LO's latch wide. Make sure you use a SLOW nipple. try it yourself with water. Born free is very slow. I tried playtex and found they were too fast even the newborn flow. latex is also closer to the breast than silicone

  • My ds had to be in the nicu for 9 days and I pumped. I was really worried about this but my lc's and most of the nurses assured me it was rare. DS bf for a year with no problems. Getting the hang of bfing in the beginning was very hard though! If all goes well I plan to introduce the bottle at about 3 weeks. I hear more stories about moms not being able to give their lo a bottle bc they introduced it too late. Gl!

  • I started giving Kate a bottle at 3 weeks and she's still nursing (and taking a bottle whenever). So no, I don't think you need special bottles.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
