If you don't pay a co-pay for well-baby appts...

What is your insurance provider?

I was paying $20 and it's gone up to $25... and I'm going to have to pay that for 2 kids... blech. Lydia had 3 appts in the first 2 weeks of her life, one was just to weigh her, and I had to pay a co pay each time.

This is going to add up!

  • I have no co-pays for anything but it's a government policy through my husband's military disability. Those co-pays do add up... yikes!

  • BC/BS. All other dr visits (sick visits for DS, well/sick visits for me) are $30/appt.

  • Ditto with PP. We have Tri-Care, thus no co-pays. Military insurance is nice for some things that is for sure!

This, except $25 and my Pedi did not charge for weight checks.

  • We dont pay a co pay for anything and we have Blue Cross.  I think it more depends on the employer not so much the insurance company

  • I have BC/BS PPO.  We don't pay anything for well visit appointments.  We pay 30% of sick child visits after a $1500 deductible (per person).
  • We have The Empire Plan (which is for certain NY gov't employees). Medical coverage is provided by United HealthCare, and hospital/major med coverage is through BCBS.

  • Ours is United (I think) PPO.  Well child visits are covered 100% including all vaccines and everything.  BUT we also have a ridiculous deductible so we pay for all sick visits, pregnancy visits, prescriptions, etc. etc. out of pocket.  DH's company funds a portion of that to keep costs down, but we still pay a ton out of pocket.  We fund a health spending acct. so at least it's pre-tax dollars.  Needless to say, I'd much rather pay $25 per visit.  It'd be a lot cheaper.  You don't want to know how much we're going to pay the hospital when DS gets here.  We've already paid the CNM $2000 for all the cost of the pregnancy and delivery and that doesn't even come close to meeting the deductible.
  • I think it might depend as much on what your company is requesting as the provider itself. But, FWIW, ours is United. I did an alternate vaccination schedule and had DD at the pedi's every month until 7 months, so I am very happy we had no co-pay.

Bingo. If someone has a group policy through an employer, that is where the differences usually lie. We have a group policy and it's actually pretty decent coverage, but we have to pay $35 copays, even for well-child visits. The receptionists always try to hand back my credit card when I check in, insisting that "no one has to pay for well child checks!". Well, then I'm a lucky exception. Sad

Yep, it does depend on your employer.

We also have BCBS and we pay a fortune for our insurance. DH has money taken out of each paycheck for it (i forget how much it is, but I know it is at least $200/month). On top of that, we EACH have a $250 deductible and pay 20% of everything after that up to $1500 each per year. However, our well visits only have a $20 co-pay which is nice b/c it is a lot cheaper than paying the 20%, esp. when he gets shots. Our insurance also only pays $1000 per year for immunizations. So, at DS' 1 year check-up, we had to pay over $300 for it b/c we had already passed the $1000!

When was pg w/  and delivered DS, I paid $1750 in bills b/c of our deductible and 20%. PLUS, I still had to pay the deductible and 20% of DS' stuff. I have no idea how much that all was (I forget), but I do know that it we didn't meet the $1500 max.

  • Like a PP said it probably depends on your employer.  My DH is employed through a major university and we have Cigna, no co-pays for well visits.
  • BCBS, last year was 25 this year 20.  25 for every appointment, for every ear check for ear infection, then a follow up a week later, (he had 9 infections, so that is 18 visits), add into that the Swine flu, hand foot and mouth, asthma,  and well visits and then the  $150 tube surgery, every antibiotice is a 15-25-50 tier.  I had at the very least 850 in co payments.

  • Let me add too that the final ear infection that pushed for the tubes were 3 visits for a shot of an antibiotic 3 days in a road.  25 a pop. It never ends.  I'm thankful to have insurance because it would be a lot more without it!

I am thankful too, but I do get jealous of those who don't have a copay at every appt... but it sounds like it gets taken out somewhere else for some people.

  • Humana.  But it does totally depend our your policy.  When I had BCBS there was no fee for a well-baby visit, but we had a $10 copay.  Now with Humana we have neither, but we have a craptacular deductible.

  • We used to have Aetna, and paid $10 per pedi visit (well and sick).

But we just changed pedis and simultaneously switched to Highmark BlueShield, and at Lyla's 15 month appt last week, we weren't charged anything. I actually thought it was a mistake and figured they'd just send us the bill, but now I'm thinking maybe it was because it was a well visit? Hmmm....

  • we have healthnet through aetna. and do not pay for well visits.

  • We don't pay anything for well baby or well woman check ups.  Our insurance is company is GEHA (government but not military).  My mom works for BCBS and I think it really just depends on what plan your employer participates in.

  • It depends on your employer. DH's insurance through US Healthcare has $0 for well visits, $15 for sick visits, $25 for specialists, $35 for urgent care. When I worked I had US Healthcare but my well visits were $25 and I had a $1500 deductible.

  • We had several weight check appointments the first two weeks (probably 5 appointments total). Originally we were billed for a co-pay but our Pedi specifically told us we shouldn't have one so she took off the charges some how. Anyway, well appt copay is 0. Sick is 25.

We have federal employee blue cross blue shield.

  • I have Aetna but I dont think it is so much who you are covered by but the plan your company has set up with your insurance.
