re: 3rd tri question-labor?

Do you have to have a bloody show before you're actually in labor? Can contractions just feel like cramps? Are nausea (sp?) and extreme exhaustion signs that its coming?

Re: re: 3rd tri question-labor?

  • I had my bloody show when my early contractions started and kind of continued well into labor. My contractions felt like period cramps starting out very mildly and then becoming extremely uncomfortable and hurting in my back too, oh and I threw up 2 while in labor but not until my contractions were really bad. • No bloody show here.  I felt like I had the flu the day before.  My water broke at 5:30am the next day.  I was 36 weeks.
  • It is so different for everyone.

    For me:

    • I never had bloody show.
    • BH contractions felt like cramps, the real contractions were easy to tell because I felt them with my whole abdomen/pelvic area
    • I was really energized through most of labor, not exhausted... only nausea a bit when we got to transition.
    • Also, my water didn't break on it's own.  I was dilated to 7cm before they finally broke my water for me.

It would be nice if there was a l&d game plan that was the same for everyone so you knew exactly what to expect at every stage.  All I can say is that the books and other people are right that when you go into labor for real, you will know it.

    Good luck!

Yes, my bloody show was the ultimate reason we ended up going to the hospital.  My contractions felt EXACTLY like period cramping, just a million times stronger.  Exhaustion didn't kick in for me until the very end when I had been in labor for 30+ hrs.

I'm fairly similar. I had blood tinged mucous discharge for 2 days with ctx (I had regular ctx for nearly 50hrs...most of those hours 3-5 min apart, ugh). I threw up as well about 2 hrs before being admitted (I was turned away twice for not progressing).

  • My contractions felt like the worst period cramps ever. that is the best way for me to describe them. I am not sure abotu the bloody show I was induced and did have my bloddy show at the hospital before delivering.

  • I didn't have a bloody show really. Contractions definitely felt like cramps at first for me- that lasted well over 12 hours though. I had "cramps" from 6 AM to around 11 PM, and then really started having contractions... went to hospital around 2 AM, had baby at 4:01 PM next day. I have heard nausea can feel that way. I didn't have as much nesting beforehand, but was VERY tired/slept in a lot in days leading up to birth. Hope you are on your way!!! GL! It is amazing!!

No bloody show here. Contractions felt like all different things for me: cramps, crunches, lower back pain. I didn't get nauseous, but I did poop 4 times in the 24 hours before I went in. Good luck, AFW!
