Is it too early to decorate?

Hi!  I'm wondering when most of you started decorating your nurseries?  I am 16 weeks today.  We picked our bedding set yesterday - we decided we wanted to go neutral in case we have another or decide to sell the house.  I'm really pleased with the set and now cannot wait to start painting etc.

However, part of me is still very cautious because I am still early.  It would be pretty tough if something happened after the nursery was decorated.  What do you think?  Too early?

Re: Is it too early to decorate?

  • If you are going in neutral I say go for it. As soon as we find out the sex at 18 weeks we are starting to decorate. If we could start sooner we would.

  • I don't know if there is an "too early" answer.  I think it is whatever you feel comfortable with.  I bought a crib for ds around 21 wks and just bought one for this baby yesterday at 25wks.  We also started working on her nursery this weekend.   If you don't have a crib yet, that is a good place to start.  You never know if the one you want will take 12wks to get in or be in stock already.
  • We just started to rearrange the house today to clear out the room that will become the nursery.  We would have started early, but didn't really have time especially with the holidays.  I say if you have the time and energy to do it now, go for it.  Have fun!
  • I will be 25 weeks Tuesday and we are just starting this week to paint and decorate the nursery.  Going to get furniture on Saturday.  I am overly cautious due to high risk issues.

  • We have actually already painted the room and are starting on small things.  My mom ordered our crib for us already because it's going to take about 8 weeks to get here. I love to decorate my house so I have been planning the nursery since before we were even pregnant! :) We are going to wait until we find out what we are having before we buy the bedding.

  • If we were going to paint the nursery I would have done it by now.  We don't need to paint it though because it's a chamois ragged blue finish that I did 3 years ago to add to my portfolio.  The only thing I've done for the nursery so far is clean the carpet with the wet vac.  I'm going to this huge kids sale at the state fairgrounds on the 22nd, and after that will be purchasing our crib, so I guess that's when the real decorating will begin.  I'll be 23 weeks then.
  • I entertained myself with doing research, planning and making an inspiration board.  I just started ordering and buying things for the nursery this past week.  image'>

I'm from NC, too and not too far from Raleigh.  Is the sale all weekend or just the 22?  Thanks!

  • I think the earlier the better. We are waiting for the gender then plan to tackle it. I want to get things done before I get too big..although I am so fatigued now I don't know if its much better :-)

    I say decorate away!

    PS-Nice due date :-)

  • We started decorating early because I like to be prepared.  Our Dr. told us that once you are past the 10-12 wk mark, the odds of a miscarriage drop dramatically and that it was ok to really start planning.  I'd say if you are excited and up for the work....go for it!
  • I don't think it's too early. Go for it!

  • I am waiting till we find out the sex! Jan 19th is the day! I can't wait!
