There is no point in the expensive bedding sets. You can't put pillows or blankets in the crib, so what's the point? You can buy individual sheets of good quality for about $15 ea (and that's on the high end). A sheet saver runs around $12, and if you decide on bumpers (I am personally not using them) they are relatively inexpensive as well.

My mom is talking about buying our set and she's willing to spend about $150. She wants to get the whole set - including the quilt, so that we can have it embroidered and saved for LO's LO.
Our 4-piece set was around $180. I really didn't want to spend over $200. I was shocked at how much many of the sets were. I wanted something really simple, and that's what seems to be the most! I also considered buying the Carter's separates because I think you could do a really cute nursery with those...I'm not into themes.
I am on to baby number three and I have re-decorated each of their rooms. I have done the entire room up then found some cute sheets that matched. I have used a white crib skirt each time. IMO baby bedding is such a waste of money because once they become little people you will want to change the room decor to fit them. American Ped Society says blankets, pillows, and bumpers are a no. I also made sure I bought at least three sets of sheets and an extra mattress pad as well. I was shocked at how often my little one spit up. Just what work for me.

I was starting to think I was in the minority not getting a bedding set! Like you, I think it's a waste of money... so many other things to ask for / focus on. I am really pleased with how my nursery is coming together, and all I'm buying is sheets, a sheet saver, mattress pad, and skirt. No bumpers, although I will end up with 2 quilts. One my company sends as a gift no matter what, and one my MILs best friend wanted to make me for my shower.

I will be sewing my own. I plan on making 3 sets (under $5 bucks a piece), crib skirt (est less than $10), curtains (est $20) and I already made a quilt for after she's older that cost about $30. I am going to re-do a lamp shade for under $20. I didn't like anything I found online or in stores.
I am not buying a set but I am making a skirt, window coverings, and a baby blanket. The fabric is costing about $100 total. I will also get a breathable bumper.
we spent about 300 on our first son's crib set (sheet, bumper, blanket, diaper holder) with our girl were spending 360. Its just a sheet, bumper and blanket. The price is high due to the brand.
I was willing to spend about $200, but we lucked out b/c the one we agreed on was on sale at PBK. We didn't get the bumper (not using one) & total we spent $100.
Not much. With #3, we have realized that baby bedding is such a wast of $$$.
With our first, DS, I went all out and got a bunch of organic bedding from BabyStyle, which was NOT CHEAP.
With DD, I thought I was going budget by getting Wendy Bellissimo bedding from Babys R Us for $150.00.
This time? We are just getting a few cotton sheets in cute prints. You can't use bumpers or quilts or any of that stuff...too bad it took us 5 years to figure that out!
Re: How much $$
About $40.

I'm just getting fitted sheets and a bed skirt from PBK.
Total cost: approx $120.00 I am guessing.
