What to use for diaper rash ?

I've been super lucky, and this is the first time DD is suffering from diaper rash (the painful looking kind anyways).  In the past, I'd use Desitin if I noticed the smallest amount of redness, and it improved immediately.  We are currently on Day 3 of a diaper rash that looks painful.  I've tried Desitin and baby powder, but DD's diaper rash is not going away.  What products have you had success with. TIA.

  • California Baby is AWESOME!

  • max strength desitin works the best for us
  • My magic potion is white balmex with?A LOT?of aquaphor on top. DO NOT wipe with wipes unless there is poop, and even then try to clean it off without digging into the aquaphor. If it is really bad, use a washcloth to wupe b/c wipes can irritate it.

  • Triple Paste!  My DD has only had a really, nasty diaper rash 1x and we also gave her oatmeal baths while using the triple paste.  You can buy a box of the oatmeal soak and it comes in packets.  I know that Aveeno makes it but we just bought the store brand at our local grocery store.

For regular diaper changes, I always apply original Desitin as a barrier and skin protectant.

I hope that your daughter starts to feel better soon!

  • On a regular basis I use California Baby and she doesn't get diaper rash often (maybe 3 times in her life).

When it gets bad, after I wipe her, I let it air dry completely and then use Triple Paste.  Just load it up...it prevents moisture from penetrating the skin.

  • Triple Paste is the absolute BEST for a bad diaper rash. It's worth the money.

Yes  It is all we use.

  • We've never had a bad rash, but when he gets a little irritated we use Weleda calendula diaper cream and it's always gone in the morning.
  • I prefer generic Butt Paste that you can get at CVS. I never had good luck with Triple Paste.

  • We use triple paste...and we wipe with a wet paper towel instead of using wipes.

  • Thanks for the advice everyone.  I will probably try Triple Paste and see if it helps any.  I also let her go diaperless for a 1/2 hour today, and that seemed to help a bit too.  Again, thanks for responding.
