Pumping,low supply,and babies who STTN--question

If you pump during the night and have a low supply, what would you do if your baby STTN?  My baby is sleeping 7-10 hours at night, which is great, but if I have to wake up to pump, that's more work than when she was waking up to feed, so what good is it for her to STTN?  I don't think I can keep up pumping every 4 hours when I have to go back to work, is this going to crash my supply?  WDYD?

Re: Pumping,low supply,and babies who STTN--question

  • You really shouldn't go longer than 5 hours.  Pump right before bed and right as you wake up. You probably only get about 6 hours anyways so that would be about right. Maybe wake up early on Tuesdays and Thursdays and sleep in a bit more on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

On the weekends try to have "nurse-ins" or "pump-ins" as it may be to build up your supply.  But I am not going to lie, your supply will probably be affected you also risk clogged ducts and mastisis if you go too long.  I know all about that unfortunately.

  • I am up pumping now! I would try to wake up and pump once . Gl!
  • I have insufficient glandular tissue, and my supply topped out at about 8 oz/day about a month ago.

My LC told me that once my supply topped out, I could gradually decrease the number of pumpings per day. ?In the past month I've gone from 8 to 4x/day without decreasing supply, even if I go 8 hours without pumping.
