Baby's name in nursery?

I have been looking on HGTV rate my space nursery for ideas and I noticed a lot of people put there babys name on the walls. How many of you are going to do this? I probably won't but if I do it would have to be after the baby is born because we are not telling the name we chose until the day of the birth so I don't want anyone to get a sneak peak by looking in the nursery.

Re: Baby's name in nursery?

  • We dont plan on doing it for a few reasons....1. we are team green so we wont know what name we are going with until birth and mainly 2. it seems as if everyone and their mom does it, so that makes me not want to do it! Huh?

  • We did this. We got the white wooden letters from Michaels and then decorated with little wooden palm trees, fish, suns, etc. (we have a beach themed room for my son) It was actually my favorite part of his nursery!

  • I'm painting letters to match his bedding.  So we are doing it, but I'm also not telling anyone the name.  Our families live out of town, so I will just blurr that part of the photo if we show them the nursery
  • This was DS's name in his first room.  We have moved since then, but painted his room about the same color.  We haven't decided if we're hanging the name back up or if we're doing it in the baby's nursery or not.

  • We put her name up above the crib, and it's one of two things in the room that everyone comments on that they love.

This. Those 9" white letters from Michaels & painted them... I'll post pic in a moment....

  • Definitely NMS but people should do whatever they feel like.
  • I'm going to do it.  Though I do know that everyone does it these days... but I don't really care.
  • I plan to put the first name on the wall maybe over the bed. Not sure what color yet, I like the white letters but I also think maybe the same color as the bedding that I get.

I found my letters on Pottery Barn (I think) but now that a PP mentioned Michael's, I will definitely look there.

  • I really like that Alphabet Photography thingy that someone posted once. We have the same Team Green issue though, so we'll have to wait until the birth. We can't paint or use wallpaper though, so we're trying to find other ways to decorate.
  • I'm making her letters. I think its really cute for a nursery.
  • I will be doing this. I found some white letters in a fun font at JoAnn's and I plan to paint/decorate them and hang with ribbon. We're renting at the moment and are not allowed to paint LO's room, so this will provide from decoration and color. We'll also be using the vinyl adhesive polka dots in different shades of pink and green.
  • I had a friend who put the baby's name over the crib. When the baby started standing he ripped the letters off the wall. They used nails Tongue Tied and he ended up stabbing himself with one of the nails. Granted these people aren't the brightest bulb in the bunch.   I'd put the letters somewhere other than over the crib. Better to be safe than sorry.
  • my DD had them in her nursery.  we have upgraded to some princess ariel letters i found on ebay.  to cute and i love them.  im pretty sure i will do it again.

i did see something awhile back that i would never do though.  this lady i knew had pictures of her stomach with babies name spelled in blocks sitting on it. then didnt even name the baby that.  i really hope she didnt purchase any of them.  really cute idea, but then not to name baby that was silly.

  • I'm not, only becuase it kind of strikes me as odd to put someones name on the wall - I wouldn't have me and Dh's names up in our room;) I can see the appeal for others though - to each his own!

  • We got a custom wall decal made with his first and middle name. We put this over the crib. It only comes off when peeled with a hairdryer so I am hoping LO does not figure out how to rip them down.
  • We did with DD.  DH's dad is handy and made the letters himself using stencils we gave him, and his stepmom painted them.  They turned out really cute.  We'll probably do the same for DS.
  • I'm doing the monogram.  I'm just going to buy a decal once we know the sex.

    Not the full name.

  • I did it for DS, so I'll do it for this baby too.  I made Carm's myself and I enjoyed making them.  :)

  • We are doing it. Thank God their names are short! We aren't telling the names AND their gender to our family but we are also not moving until after the babies come so we are safe!

If I may, where did you get your decals? I think is going to be the best way to decorate LO's room since I'll be in an apartment.

  • DH thought it was dumb and I didn't really care so we aren't doing it. It does seem like a ton of people do this now. I'm still considering just doing his first initial hanging somewhere but we'll see.

We did this for wall letters in my dd's room.  We took the same material that my mom made the bedding with and embroidered it with letters.  Then the material was stretched like canvas.  I liked the way they turned out.  I couldn't find a better photo of them at the moment.

  • No, it's NMS. DD's room isn't a traditional nursery either - one wall is wallpapered with old record album covers and the other is in mismatched vintage frames.

  • Just an FYI to those who are doing this... they sell the letters at Burlington Coat Factory in pink, white, and blue...and reasonably priced!
