Do babies naturally outgrow swaddling?

Or do you need to transition them?

Aric sleeps so amazingly well swaddled. We are up to 5-6 hours at a time. Whenever we try to put him down without a swaddle, we get maybe 2-3 hours. And I know he's not hungry after 2-3 hours because he falls asleep immediatly in my arms.

What kind of transitioning are you going to do, or do you know if babies just naturally outgrow the need to be swaddled? Or should I just grin and bear it for a couple nights while he gets used to sleeping without a swaddle, since he used to sleep only 2-3 hours a night swaddled anyway?

    I think Cora outgrew it already, for the past two nights she throws a fit if she's swaddled at all, even a loose swaddle. So the past two nights we haven't swaddled her at all. She sleeps 3-4 hours on a full tummy now.

    is there a reason you want to stop swaddling? i'm pretty sure its something they outgrow. i've been wondering this too. DS sleeps so much better swaddled so I'm not stopping anytime soon!

    IMO, yes. Why would you want to not swaddle him at this point? We swaddled DS #1 until 9 months, at which point he was ready to give it up. We had to make new swaddle blankets, obviously.

    I'm not looking to quit for any particular reason, I'm just worried that I'll have a 3 year old that demands to be swaddled before bed, LOL!!

    I think DS is already outgrowing it.  No matter how tight DH gets it, DS manages to get his arms out overnight, whereas he used to not be able to.  I do have some of those swaddle me blankets that velcro, and I haven't tried those lately.  But it seems like he's already getting too big for a regular swaddle.

    I don't think my little man likes to be swaddled anymore. He'll scream bloody murder within five minutes if we put him down swaddled whereas if I just put him down in a fleece onsie he'll sleep for a couple of hours.

    by 1 month he would not let us swaddle him, if we did he fought to break free and that would wake him up. occasionally we need to do a very weak light swaddle
