I was induced last pregnancy due to pre-e. It was a great experience. This pregnancy I am healthy and there is no reason for an induction. Nonetheless, since I had such a good experience last time, I asked my doc about another induction. She said, 'Things have changed in the last 2 years. The American Association of OBs is now recommending no non-medical inductions before 39 weeks and the XYZ hospital (where I will deliver) won't support non-medical induction before 40 weeks.' Interesting.
So....if you are being induced for non-medical reasons before 40 weeks, WHY? (NO judgment from me, just wondering about how you ended up there.)
Re: If you're being induced - WHY?
I *might* be induced but it would be for a medical reason - bp issues.
I am happy to hear one positive induction story!
Oh it was great - I would happily do it again. Pitocin hooked up at 2pm, contrax started immediately, epi received at 4pm, water broken at 5pm, 10cm at 8pm, baby born at 8:50pm. A tiny tear that required 2 stitches. Don't listen to the horror stories.
At my 38 week appointment (Thursday) I was 100% effaced and 2 cm dilated. My OB said there's of course no way to tell when things will get going, and asked if I would be interested in scheduling an induction this week or if I would rather wait it out. We went ahead and scheduled the induction for Tuesday (I'll be 39 weeks), it's purely elective. Glad to hear you had a great experience!
(note that I write this as I sit here having some good contractions...I have my doubts that I'll make it to Tuesday but it's nice to have the end date just in case!)
Well, my last day of work was 1/3, and my company will cover Cobra for 6 weeks. Then it becomes roughly $800/month for us to pay. (We switch to DH's insurance afterward, but can't while pregnant)
I'm thinking of asking my doc if they'll consider inducing a week early to fit that window. I don't know if they'll do it though.

Great!
Your son is sooo cute and I love his name!
I was induced the 1st time for high blood pressure and also had a fast labor - about 4.5 hours including 35 mins of pushing. I tore and the dr cut me, but I'm just happy it was fast.
B/c I had such a fast labor last time, I'm nervous about what it will be like if I go through the "regular" way. You're first, flowerchild, so I'm curious what yours will be like. Of course, I hope everything goes well with you.
I'm being induced on Monday for several reasons. The doctor ultimately left it up to us (so it was a recommended elective induction), but really recommended it due to the following reasons:
-He suspects that my due date is actually closer to 1/4-1/8, which would put me just over 40 weeks at the time of induction rather than just under it.
-The baby's positioning is both pinching a nerve, and causing decreased circulation for me. Meaning that I'm in quite a lot of pain, and also that I randomly pass out several times a day (or get extremely disoriented if I don't pass out). Consequently, I'm pretty much house-bound, and even just being home alone is scary becausse I never know when I'm going to konk out. This issue won't resolve until the baby is born.
- My blood pressure has slowly been creeping up with each appt, and they don't want it to develop into an issue.
-I'm already almost 4cm dilated, so he believes that since I'm favorable to an induction already, the benefits outweigh the risks.
We're not going to do the induction route but my doctor will induce at 39w for nonmedical reasons if you want to and if you get a decent bishop's score. I forget the exact number.
We are having a c/s at 39w2d b/c of baby's size, clotting issues and a few other medical reasons. Or earlier if baby decides to come earlier.
This is the same for me, though I'm going to try to do EVERYTHING I can do naturally induce instead of having the doc do something. I've already scheduled a few acupuncture appointments for that day and told DH to be ready for some late-term sexy time.
