Em has been able to sit in the high chair for about awhile now. Maybe a month and a half? We were giving her cereal for awhile, then we sort of stopped (lazy mommy!) and now she's showing a ton of "ready!" signs, so I'm thinking we might go back to solids in a more BLW approach. *note* we were told to start solids early b/c of reflux. I do think they help her reflux, but with the holidays we were so busy I fell off a bit.
Anyway.. we tried last night to put her in the high chair and put some cooked, mashed sweet potatoes on the tray. But, she's not quite tall enough to be able to reach the tray well! The tray hits her at mid-chest. She sits up perfectly in the chair, it's just a bit too big for her.... Also, the chair can be adjusted to be the right height for the table but then we don't have an area to put the food. Our table is wood and not sealed.
So, my question is- when you started solids, did your baby just fit in the high chair? And if so, what kind did you have? Or did you just put baby on your lap and let them eat off a place mat or something?
It's so frustrating because she has enough control to sit in the high chair (for 15-20 minutes at a time) but she just doesn't seem to fit it very well! We have one of those giant plastic peg persomething ones.. it was a gift.
Re: probably silly BLW/high chair question
He was able to eat from his tray (though it was high and we had to put stuff near him so he could reach), but we've also many times just pulled the high chair up to the table.

Could you use this and either have her on your lap or in the highchair at the table? It has suctioncups so that it stays in place on the table.
I got that one to take on the go. I have this one at home:

sice our table is also unsealed wood and we have a tripptrapp so DS always sits at the table. But the Stokke one is really expensive (I was able to buy it 50% off) and probably harder for you to find than the other one.
Oh and sorry can't do clicky.
We have the Svan high chair - we didn't get it until he was 5 months but he could sit in it fine then (he was sitting unassisted well at that point though). It's much smaller than a lot of chairs so he never had trouble with the tray.
I think it's fine if you want to hold her on your lap. I've done that when we've been away from home - kiddo loves eating off my plate ;-)

DS eats off of his tray in his high chair (old fashioned wood one) which is up against the table with us. If we were to hold him on our laps with a placemat, the placemat would go flying. As it is we can't even use the plates we bought for DS because those end up on the floor as well.
