phil and teds- 30lb max on back seat & city select first hand review:

learned this today and thus it is out of the question bc by 21 month old is 30lbs already thus he'd have to sit in front and the baby can't sit in the back until he is 5/6 months old.....

im at a loss....

just read a review about city select from someone who tested it in person and i am less than intrigued now.....

from the strolling along blog:

Just test drove the city select at the Buy Buy Baby store in chelsea (only store that has it right now). Like many of you, I was very excited about this product, but having seen and tested it first hand, I?m somewhat let down. First, the plastic seems to be very low grade as compared to the bugaboo. When the saleswoman was showing my wife and I the adjustability of the canopy, the plastic clipping mechanism broke in half ? not a good sign. Also, the frame seemed to be a bit to narrow for the seat. In order to slide the seat into the slots on either side of the frame, I had to force the frame apart. I suppose the frame could have been bent during shipping, but there was definitely something not right. I also noticed that the fold was not a simple as shown on the youtube video being circulated. In order to fold while in tandem mode, the leg rest of the back seat MUST be all the way down, other wise it catches the back of the front seat, preventing the stroller from folding. On the video, it did not appear that anything had to be adjusted to fold the stroller. The only requirement stated was that both seats be facing forward. I now know that this is not the case. Finally, the shocks are nowhere near the quality of the other bugaboo-like strollers. In fact, the back wheels do not have any shocks at all and the shocks on the front wheels have very little travel. All that said, Baby Jogger is still the only one taking an affirmative step to create the ultimate tandem stroller and they are definitely going in the right direction. The stroller does look great and it rode very smooth in the store. I just hope that BJ are prepared to handle the service issues that are sure to come piling in?

  • good to know, thanks. I wont be buying a stroller for a few months, so maybe they'll address those issues.

the p&t--good point. DS is 22 lbs and by 18 months he may be 30 or close to it, plus like you said the baby wont be able to go in the back until 5 months ish....guess thats out--DH hated it anyway =)

  • On the P&T, the heavier kid is supposed to be up front, anyway.  We have the baby in the bassinet setting until he's big enough for the seat, and my daughter is up front.  So we're all set until the baby is 30 lbs.

We're doing the same thing with our P&T Sport.  The baby is in the bassinet with DS in the seat above (up front).  When she's ready to be out of the bassinet, she can move to the jump seat and DS will stay up front!

That is basically what I was told at the store as well - that you actually can't do it any other way safely to start out with. I hope so because DS is well over 30lbs now at 26 months.... and we're slowly leaning more and more towards a P&T as we realize the City Select might just be too expensive and not do what we want it to do anyway in which case we might as well just let go of things a bit more and get the P&T....

  • Ha...I seriously logged on tonight to complain I just found out about the 33 lb weight limit on the jump seat.  I just don't know if I am comfortable putting a 6 month old down there and REALLY want to use the car seat adapter in the first 6 months...which would force my dd down to the jump seat (I think she will be too heavy by 24 months.)   I am at a loss.
