After being convinced to go in and being monitored for an hour, I'm not in labor. Not even dilated at all. I feel stupid.
The nurse said that I wasn't having contractions and I said well what do you call it then? I freaking hurt bad!
That's just being pregnant.
Are you friggin kidding me?
The nurse said to come back in when I'm really in labor. Oh yeah, and take some Tylenol.
FFS.
False alarm. Sorry, ladies!
Re: "You can take Tylenol for that." (back from l&d)
I hope she was at least kind how she said all that- the thing about the medical community is that they see the same thing over and over again and tend to blow people off or treat them condecendingly, even when it is NEW to the person experiencing it. I myself have been guilty of this.
Hope you feel better soon! (ie ba-by-ba-by ba-by)
(edit- not hoping you go prematurely, just hoping the time passes quickly for you, and pain free)
She was just being snarky. You had waves of back pain that was regular and slight bleeding and you are 5 days to a term baby.
She could have been nicer.
They acted like that on one of my kids, didn't take me seriously because I was about as far along as you. When they finally got around to checking me, I was over 6 cm, they had to call a stat and she was here in less than an hour with them dressing my OB in blues as he ran into the room to catch her.
I wouldn't feel badly if I were you, you did the right thing to go in.
I'm just going to assume that she hadn't had her morning coffee yet. And while I was a bit sensitive to how she said everything, I don't blame her.
I just hope that once Monday comes around I'm not still feeling like this. Because it's going to be rather hard to work. But I'm just going to try to relax today and hope that things are better tomorrow.
This whole end of pregnancy scares the shiit out of me.
I realize I generalized above by saying the "medical community tends to" --my apologies-- an accurate statement would have read "SOME in the medical community tend to."
There are so many quality professionals out there who don't let the daily grind affect how they treat the individual patient, and for that we can all be grateful.
True, but even they can have an off day. Doctors, nurses etc. are human also.
Everyone has off days no matter what you do. I find myself snapping at my students all of the time when I shouldn't have. Shiit happens!
FWIW we've been to L&D twice for false alarms now and both times felt like an idiot. But they said it's better to go get checked out than not so we have been.
That said before I even consider it now I try the tylenol and juice and nap thing - if I can nap through the contractions I figure it's not the real thing.
Better to be safe than sorry. And seriously, if you hurt that bad, it sounds like more than just being pregnant.
I'm sure you're disappointed...sorry we got your hopes up!
