If your LO has gotten a rash from food..

My DD developed a rash yesterday and we're pretty sure it's from something she ate (most likely eggs). I gave her some Benadryl before bed and expected the rash to look better this morning, but it doesn't look any better and quite possibly a little worse. How long did it take for your LO to get rid of the rash? At what point am I supposed to call the pedi?

  • I would call the dr this AM. DS got a rash from eating pb (we now know that he's allergic to it) but the Benedryl took care of the reaction within about 15 minutes.

  • Thank you for responding. I just left a message with the nurse at my pedi's office.

  • Depending on what it's from/how bad it is, they may also recommend a topical or oral steroid.

K got a rash this summer from sweet & sour sauce (it was topical-everywhere it touched on her skin turned scarlet/purple and inflamed). A long bath in Mustela Stelatopia and some Benadryl did the trick in about an hour.

  • Sounds like she's allergic and her rash is an eczema symptom. My son is allergic to eggs and if he eats something with egg in it he breaks out on his chin and cheeks. More so on his chin though. We give 3/4 tsp of Benadryl immediately to relieve itching. Then we apply his rx med, Elidel. If the rash begins to look weepy/crusty/etc. its infected. that would be Impetigo and you'd need an rx to treat it. Can you tell we go through this often? my son breaks out from perfumes as well and he'll get an infection easily. Good luck!
