3rd Trimester

If you're itchy please read to avoid still birth

if you are itchy to the point that lotion doesn't really help PLEASE ask your doctor to do some blood work to check for a disease called Cholestasis (sounds like coleystasis) it is a disease that causes you to be severly itchy. it is caused by a liver problem (or in my case, gallbladder) and it puts you at a much higher risk for still birth. they will induce you as soon as the babies lungs are mature. i am being induced no later than the 37th week. here is a link to a website devoted to the disease. alot of the babies on the memorial page are still born in the 34th and 35th week.

  • you're welcome. i just don't want someone to think telling your doctor that you're itchy in the winter is a dumb thing to bring up because it obviously/apparently isn't. it's a 3rd trimester thing too. it usually starts around week 28-30
  • Thank you, I had no idea!
  • Good advice.  I'm glad you're doctor was able to identify you early.
  • Hi there -- I just got diagnosed with this yesterday. It took 3 people before anyone took me seriously that it wasn't just dry skin--so glad I was insistent.

The Itchy Moms site is really helpful...in addition to taking the med recommended, I'm trying some of the reco'd dietary changes on the Itchy Moms site to see if I can reduce some of the itching. Anything you're doing to reduce the itching---love to hear what's working for you, too. Thanks.
