hey ladies. if you BF and started solids by 8 months, how much did/does your 9 month old weigh? and how much solid food was/is (s)he eating on a daily basis?
M&D have both dropped percentiles - D is prob on account of crawling, etc. but M is really not doing well - still not digesting well due to his MSPI i think... although i have completely eliminated everything remotely milk or soy related from my diet... he is down to the 1st percentile (from 50th at his peak around 3 months) and we're starting to get scared. his issues are more complicated, but meanwhile my pedi even seemed concerned about D dropping from 25th to around 20th %ile - cant remember exactly at the moment. i think he thinks my supply is a problem but i really dont believe that... idk, maybe i am naive. either way, me asking you guys these Qs is more about determining what's normal so that i have more info about how to react to D's weight. M is definitely dealing with something more than just what's normal
thanks for letting me ramble, and for your help.
Re: EBFers with 9+ month olds - 2 Qs inside
Jack dropped from 60% to 40% at 9 month and to 30% since then.
I assume it is crawling/walking related. I've never had supply problems. Plus, solids are less calorie-dense than BM, so I've heard a lot of breastfed babies drop weight at that age.
I can't remember exact numbers, but DD definitely dropped about 5 percentile points at the 9 month check. But she was still right on her curve, and that's what my doc looks at. Pedi said I probably would see a supply dip around there or in the next few months, but that it wasn't a big deal. (I didn't notice a change until AF came back around 13 months.)
DD was eating 3 small meals a day of solids -- not huge amounts at any meal, probably 3-5 tbsp worth? She still isn't a big eater.
At 6 months DS was in the 55th percentile, and by 9 months he was in the 41st. (Also, he had dropped from 86th at 2 months and 70th at 4 months. I looked it up in his records just to make sure I was remembering correctly.) To me, that's a pretty significant drop, and he was completely fine and healthy. A LOT of BF babies drop in the charts. Your DD's drop doesn't sound like any big deal at all to me. I'm sorry that M is having some issues, though.
DS wasn't really eating a lot of solids at 9 months -- it was still pretty touch and go as to how much he would eat. He would have some cereal or fruit for breakfast, eat one container of baby food at lunch and maybe one container for dinner. He was still taking 16 ounces of BM at daycare and nursing 4 times morning, evening and overnight at home. So almost all of his calories were still from BM.
IMO, you know if you have a supply problem better than anyone. If you can't tell, then you don't have a problem. If you LOs are nursing without fussing, seem full and not hungry when they're finished, and having wet/dirties, you are fine.
Good luck and hang in there. You are doing a great job, mama.
Callum dropped from the 50th to the 25th between 6 and 9 months (can't remember numbers). He was still nursing a lot but was inconsistent in how much he ate solids wise. Pedi wasn't worried at all and said it was totally normal since he was crawling. He had jumped back up at his appt yesterday to 35th for weight - just had a growth spurt I think. I think D sounds like she's fine. Hope y'all figure out what's going on with M - I know that's stressful :-(
ETA: Kiddo had even dropped off his curve at his 9 month - but pedi still wasn't worried since he was growing and doing well. She said genetics kicks in by then and I was a very small toddler. I've also never had supply issues and kiddo still dropped.

Joseph was 60+% at birth, at his 9mo appt he was
% (he was NOT crawling yet). He weighed 15lb9oz at 9mo.
1) what are you and your DH like? My DH is really thin, and I was a tiny little kid. It really is no surprise that DS is tiny, also.
2) joseph really upped his intake of food from 9mo to 10mo. at 9mo i think he was taking maybe 2oz 2 times per day. Now he's taking 4 oz in the morning plus 7+oz 2 times per day w/ a snack in the afternoon, too.
I would be REALLY surprised if there is an issue w/ your baby that fell from 25% to 20%. That's a very small change!

DD has always been on the smaller side-less than 25%ile for weight. At her 9 month appt (which was really around 9.5 mo) she weighed 17lbs. She's still on about 1-2 solid meals per day-just a small amount of finger foods and maybe a few ounces of purees. She's just not a big eater.
Does M nurse first? If it is a supply issue like your doc says-is there maybe just not much left for him after the other one nurses? (I have no idea about nursing twins, so if this is a completely stupid question kindly disregard!)
Does M seem interested in solids? You could try some whole milk yogurt for some extra fat and calories. Just a thought.
I totally applaud you for nursing your twins-it's really amazing! Try not to worry, Mama, everything will be okay.
domerjenc - thanks for your response - that sounds almost like M except he was small at birth (around 5th %ile i think at 6lb1oz) then got up to 50th, then down to where he is now. meanwhile D was way below the charts at birth (4lb10oz), then got up to maybe 30th %ile at her highest. i'm feeling less and less like i need to worry about her... but your response gives me some encouragement re: M as well. as for DH and i - i am medium frame i would say, he is fairly tall (6'1") and solid. but he also was a very skinny gangley kid. so it may be part of the equation for sure.
sunnyday - from your response and others' i wonder if i am giving too much solid food... they both seem to enjoy solids but i wonder if they are taking in less BM as a result. i mean obv they are taking in less, but i mean less than ideal. as for nursing, i tandem nurse them so they always each get a full breast
but not a stupid Q at all!
i am going to pull back a little on the solids and offer fattier foods in general i think... hopefully this is just a blip along the way.
thanks again everybody
