I think it will look less formal in ivory, actually. The pic I saw was of it in white. I'd go to a David's and try it on and feel it and make a decision. It can't hurt.

Besides, while shantung MIGHT be a more formal fabric than chiffon, it's still a wedding. It just happens to be taking place on a beach, you know? I think beach-y dresses fit when you have a beach-y theme. Since y'all are getting married because you WANT to and you don't necessarily care about the "details," you can wear what you want.

It's online only, but the good thing about that is it can be returned. If I don't like it I am only out the shipping. There are actually a few on the online only I like, so I may order a few and see what happens. I totally hate David's but it might suit my needs in this situation.

That's awesome! The shantung might be a little more stiff than you wanted, but it's a really pretty dress at a great price!
