I am reposting this from the 2nd tri board because I thought more of you might have this issue as you are further along... So last night I woke up twice with both my arms totally asleep/pins and needles in the middle of the night. I was on my back both times, is this happening to anyone else? I have never been a back sleeper in my entire life (including my 1st pregnancy) and this pregnancy I find myself waking up over and over on my back. So frustrating and now I am kind of weirded out that my arms were so asleep. Any tips for staying off my back while unconscious? I got a Boppy total body pillow for x-mas, but it isn't doing the trick. Did you bring this up with your OB?
Re: Waking up with both arms completely asleep?
Oh crud. I had terrible carpal tunnel syndrome in one of my arms in my third tri with DD. Yikes, I didn't realize it would be related. I was so paranoid at the end of my last pregnancy that I wouldn't be able to hold the baby (it was that bad.) But, it went away as soon as I delivered.
well, i know that numbness is fairly common, but if you're unsure, just call your doctor. I have woken up many times with my arm asleep.
as for staying off your back, i totally understand. i was always a belly sleeper, but now i wake up on my back frequently. my doctor recommended putting a pillow under one side of my back, so i'm propped up kinda tilted. i use my body pillow for this and it helps when the hips start to hurt due to laying on my side.
