NBR: fence, water softener and blinds recs needed

Hi girls! We're closing on our new home at the end of the month and we are looking for vendors for our blinds, water softener and a fence in the spring. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

  • I have a great guy for blinds.  I got three quotes for faux wood blinds and two of them were over 1,000.  Dale came in at 788!!  He does cash only and has been in business for over 20 years I think.  BellevueBride has used him too.

  • We have used Budget Blinds twice, my parents once, & my uncle also used them.  We have all been very pleased with their price and their work.  They will come out now (if you can set it up) and measure windows and get everything ordered.  Then once you close they will come back and install everything.  I think for our entire house (about 13 windows, basic faux wood) it was less than $1400 installed.

    I highly recommend them.

  • What part of town are you in? For fence we used Burcor (got three quotes) but we are in NKY
  • Thanks so much for recommending Dale. He's actually one of the 2 blind companies I talked to and he was about $25 cheaper per blind! I'm glad to hear he did a great job for you!
  • Mills Fence. Our yard was fenced on three sides when we moved in, they finished it for us in January and we got a good price since it was their slow season.

  • Are you hiring someone to put the blinds up or doing it yourself?  We bought our blinds and did them ourselves.  We measured each window, went to Home Depot or Lowe's (probably Lowe's), and had them cut to size.  We got the faux wood ones, and they look really good.
  • Whatever you do, don't use selectblinds.com.  Their customer service is horrible.
  • Marking this post to check back later since we will need all this also :-)  I think we are going to do our blinds our selves though!
Our kids are 19mths apart and we LOVE it!!

  • We used Chestnut Fence and I highly recommend them. I am obsessive about calling and comparing quotes. I received 11 quotes (yes, OCD) and all we had was a chain link fence on the front side of the back yard because the other 3 were already done when we moved in. They were the cheapest BY FAR and very professional. They did a great job and the gates we received were actually higher quality than some of the other quotes and had to be made at their shop because it was an odd size from a very slight slope we have on the side yard. If I remember correctly they are based out of NKY, but we are in Ohio and they did ours!

  • Thanks girls!!  I'm definitely going to go with Blind Ambition!  As for the fence - I'm going to call all 3 and set up appointments as soon as we close!  FYI - we're building out in Lebanon!:)
  • Since you're in Lebanon, we had our fence installed by J&K Fencing and their number is 937-403-4284.  They're out of Hillsboro.  They do a lot of contract work for Eads Fencing but also do jobs much cheaper on their own.
