Hi! I'm coming over from 3rd tri, just hoping for some inspiring stories! My LO is measuring small and I will be induced next week if she hasn't come by then. My doctor would like her born sooner so she can get all the nutrients she needs! I have heard lots of stories about inductions, but it seems everyone has gotten the epi. I would prefer to do it natural, but am planning on playing it by ear. Just wanted to hear any stories from those of you who were induced and went natural. Thanks! Oh and I will start going on long walks everyday to try and get her out on her own!
TIA!
Re: Anyone induced and go natural???
I intended to have the epidural when I was induced. Once they hooked me up to pitocin and contractions started, I felt fine so I started to re-think my decision because I thought my body could handle it. They broke my water at 1:30 AM and my very next contraction hurt like hell and I want the epi BADLY. However, by that time I was to 8 cm and the anesthesiologist was in an emergency c-section. At 4:30 AM I started pushing and she was born at 5:26 AM.
Looking back, I wouldn't change a thing. The contractions hurt and pushing was tough, but it wasn't anything that my body couldn't handle. Once she was out, all the pain was over and I felt great. I felt 100% by 3 or 4 days pp. I will be going natural from now on, induction or not. Your body is made for this and eventually, your baby will come out! Good luck!
I did it! I went in for a regular apt on the 31st at 40 weeks 4 days. My doc offered me the option of induction. I went straight to L&D to start cervidil at noon on the 31st. I ended up doing 3 rounds of cervidil at 12 hours each. About halfway through the 3rd round I was contracting about every 5 minutes or so. This really helped my body progress faster. I started pitocin at about 1am on the second. After half an hour on the pitocin, I was contracting about every 2 minutes, with some right after another. 4 hours after starting pitocin, I was at 10 cm and fully effaced. I was in pain, but I don't think I would have even been able to sit still long enough for an epi. 5 hours after starting pitocin I started pushing and Aven was born 45 minutes later.
I am glad I was able to go without the epidural. Everyone kept offering me meds and the epidural, but my husband really supported my decision and helped me through the pain. I also had a great nurse that really encouraged me, cheered me on, and was tough when I needed her to be. I was blessed to have no complications, no stitches, and a small baby.
You can have an induction and go natural! Just keep telling yourself that the pain is only temporary. Good Luck!
I did it. Gotta be honest, it was hard. It is doable though, but you will have to really work hard to keep it in perspective. I felt like I had a lot of pressure from everyone to take the epidural, but I was stubborn (I like to think determined!) I was literally in the same situation as you. At 38 weeks exactly I was induced due to my baby measuring tiny and my fluid levels being low. I looked maybe 7 months pg. It ended up that Matthew was 5 lb 13 oz, which was about 5 oz bigger than they thought, but still pretty small. The hardest part of the labor for me was having to stay in my bed. With my 2nd daughter I labored at home until I was 8 cm.
You can do it!!!
I was induced but it turned out I was contracting all night and really didn't feel much of anything. However, once that pitocin got going it was the worst pain of my life. I had to take the epi. It was too much for me. I would tell you to keep an open mind. Remember that even if you take the epi... you are doing an amazing thing bring your LO into the world. Good Luck and I hope you get exactly the birth that you wish for!!
Thanks for your inspiring stories! It is nice to read them to know it can be done!!!
I was induced at 39w 6d at 7am. I wanted to see how long I could last until I needed pain meds. I made it to about 1PM and got an epidural....all was fantastic until around 8PM when the epi started to wear off on the left side....then around 10 when it started to wear off on the right side....and then when it was completely gone and I pushed her out sans pain meds at 12:20am.
Honestly I wouldn't change a thing. Yeah it sucked that it wore off at the end but I got to feel it all and yeah it hurt but I think thats what helped me push her out so fast. Everyone is different though!
This. I got my epi about 45 mins after they broke my water/started pit. They were horrible!
