3rd Trimester

Second Time Mom's Hospital Bag

Here is what I have packed, based on my experience the first time around:

Comfy robe (bought on sale at Marshall's),

Slippers

Yoga pants

Nursing tank and a sleep bra

Toiletries (they gave me some, but I like mine better, all travel size)

1 set of PJs (warm ones, you never know how hot/cold the place will be)

going home outfit for baby (fleece footed sleeper, hat, and blanket)

Will stash phone and charger, along with camera and charger as I go out the door.

For me, these were the only items I really used before. Comfy pants and a shirt were nice, so that I could leave the room and feel like a human being for a little while. I wore my robe when DH and I walked the halls during labor so my bum wasn't hanging out of the gown! I used the nursing gown from the hospital for like the first day, then I really wanted to be in regular clothes. I may have DH bring a pillow from home after the delivery, but otherwise, that is it. Hope this helps!

Re: Second Time Mom's Hospital Bag

  • Your bag sounds EXACTLY like mine.

I will also carry a small notebook and pen. I'm sure there will be things I'd like to write down. Great idea!

  • Loading the player...
  • I second everything in the original post and would just add:

    iPod/speakers

    Boppy

  • Sounds like mine, but I also have an iPod, and baby wipes (for me and baby) The hospital didn't supply them the first time around, and I wasn't able to shower until I got home. Just to use to freshen up a bit. DS also roomed with me and being sore and walking back and forth rinsing a washcloth was not fun for me or him.
  • I didn't have a bag last time (not prepared at 29 weeks) so this REALLY helps! Thanks sooo much!!

  • That's almost exactly what I have. I also included a few dvds a friend gave me and a fun magazine or two. Ditto to a PP about a little notebook to keep track of labor (not every little teensy detail, but it's fun to go back and look and see how things progressed).

This helps me to b/c the first time I had Cooper @ 33 weeks and were just goin to the doctor little did I know that I was going to have the baby 8 hours later...So i would have dh grab stuff when he went home.....Also maybe a book to read

  • Yea I think your list is good. I went to the hospital with NOTHING when I had DD...I didn't know I was going to have her the 2nd I walked through the door for my normal appt!  This time I plan on having my bag packed and in the car a month ahead of time.

I've read a few blogs that have said that due to the amount of blood and leakage, you really should only wear robes/pants/socks/etc. that you don't care about because they'll get ruined. Did you find this?

  • The only thing in there that I didn't pack is a robe but once I check in I don't like to leave the bed during labor except to pee.  No hall walks for me!  :)

I'm a third time mom and I packed:

yoga pants, jeans, and long sleeved comfy shirt (I'll decide the day I go home which is more comfy to wear the yoga pants or the jeans).

    pajama set

zippered footie pajama's in NB and 0-3 months for DS to wear home (not sure how big he will be).

Toiletries (I totally agree and like to have my own stuff too)

Hair dryer.  (I want my hair to look decent in those next day pictures).

Nursing cover so I can nurse without drawing the curtain if visitors are there.

    Boppy (must have for me).

Underpants and nursing bra for the day I go home.

  • My slippers I brought w/ DS #1 didn't fit - I retained too much fluid - so pack extra big ones or slipper socks.

I changed into my own PJ's on day 2 - no leakage.

SNACKS!!! I gave birth at 10 and by the time I was in my room it was 2 AM Ihadn't eaten in over 30 hours and there was no food at the hospital and we weren't thinking to run out.   I was thankful for my snacks - but was calling room service when they opened at 6 am - I think I was the first to call and I ordered a TON of food!!!

My own towel - the hospital ones stink.  My own pillows - same thing.

Nail file for DS's nails - they won't cut or file them for you.

GUM, those waterless, disposible toothbrush thingys for while in labor and not able to move and needing fresh breath : )  Also disposible wet face clothes - it felt so good to "wash" my face.

    Hair ties.

A little batter operated fan, a massager for my back (back labor stunk and all I wanted was pressure in one place).

Big undies for going home in.  I wore the mesh ones in the hospital.

    Baby Book
