What to wear? Family Photo Shoot (6 adults/3 girls)

We are surprising our MIL with a trip to OC and a family photo shoot for her 60th birthday.  My SIL just emailed me to coordinate clothes.

What should we do?  Have all three girls in the same outfit?  Pick a few colors and wear a mix of those?  The weather report says 72 today (so that throws another curveball.  This SFer isn't used that kind of weather in Jan/Feb!  But maybe it won't be as warm in a month.)

Help please :)

  • I like the idea of a few different colors. If it's outdoors shades of purple/blue look nice. I hope sone of the fashion girls chime in! Good luck :-)

  • I would say pick a few colors, but really that won't work because then you could end up with 5 shades of the same color. If they are mostly couples I would just have the couples/families coordinate and ask them to stick with bold reds, blues, greens, and black and white (or something like that.)

  • I'm not a big fan of matchy-matchy outfits for photo shoots. There's just something odd about it to me. Coordinating colors is good.

  • What a fun idea!

I vote similar solid colored outfits.  Patterns do not photograph well.

  • I agree about the patterns.

I like it when everyone just dresses as though they're going to the same place. That way it's the same level of dressy, but you're not matchy-matchy.

The problem you might run into is if one or two of you is naturally more dressy than the rest...you might have someone who particularly cares for pictures (and never any other time) get bent out of shape for being under-dressed (yes, my SIL, Confused) - but it's still an accurate representation of your personalities.
